Going for a GTO, Selling Z28 or S2
Gonna treat myself to a three year lease (smartbuy) on an '04 GTO for my birthday this month.
Don't have room for all my cars. Something will go, here are your choices.
1968 Firebird Convertible, red on red, black top, owned since November 1976, $20,000 included is about $2,000 of interior parts in the box.
1993 Z28 6 Speed red, no T Tops every other option (leather not available in 93). Purchased late September 2003 when my red S2 was stolen. Paid $8,800 for the car when it had 32,600 miles. Have a total of $11,700 into the car which includes Dunlop snows on factory rims, near new factory take offs with factory Goodyears, the factory rims. Plenty of suspension modifications, Bilsteins, Lingenfelter sways, etc. Motor has a chip, cold air induction and a MSD. At 39k I put over $700 in parts to tune it up/preventative maintenance, recent brakes etc. The car has just under 42,000 miles. $8500.
1989 944 S2 Stone Gray w/burgandy interior. Purchased in May with 54,600 miles. About to turn 55,000 miles. Belts done, 968 wheels with color caps and near new Dunlop 8000s. Has 10 speaker option with equalizer. Problem with amps so it goes left to right. Has two scratches on the drivers rear quarter, a small dent around the lip of the left front fender and a need for a paintless dent removal on the right fender. Total should not exceed $500. Interior is minty mint. I have about $10,000 into the car. Spent six months looking for a car this clean. I want $12,500 for this car and if I sell this car will find a nice NA like Antonios or an early 70s 911 for DEs.
The lease on the GTO for three years with just my GM card earnings down is a bit under $300 a month!!!

i say forget the new gto.. sell both th z28 and the s2, and get the original goat... and a used daily driver (will be a much smarter buy.. ie.. the original gto will rise in value.. as it has been..)
the z28 wont.. and the s2 wont for a long time.
(and this is comming from a die hard euro sports car guy who hates american muscle...)

Isn't there a revision coming to the new GTO this year or next? I'm pretty sure I saw that in R&T. May be worth waiting for more HP and revised, more aggressive, looks.

If I sell the S2 it gets replaced with either a NA or an old 911 after I sell the Z28. If I sell the Firebird I sell it. 28 years is a long time.
I Just dont have room for five cars and the deal on the new GTO is too good to pass up.
No desire for a 1960s no brakes ill handling death trap as a daily driver. Sorry Harry. My Z28 is a far superior car to my 68 as far as daily driving is concerned.
The 05 gets 400 hp instead of 350, hood scoops, and two tailpipes. I am getting almost 10k off the 33,190 sticker at 3.5% with an $18,500 residual. Told you the deal is too good to turn down.

No point in keeping the Z28 since the GTO will pretty much be a similar car, but much improved. I doubt you'd drive the Z28 much if you got the GTO, but you'd still probably have an interest in the Porsche and the Firebird.

I couldn't say which should go between the Z28 and the S2. I'd rather you keep the S2, but I'm biased and I'm not you. I will, however, say that the Firebird needs to stay put.

That deal is smokin on the Goat. Damn. 300 dollars a month.
GM and thier "incentive" marketing. Its not a pretty car, but it sure does look like a nice package.
It still lost to the Mustang in the new C/D, but thier reasons were weird. The shifter can so easily be changed.....
What did they do to the engine for the 50 horses?

Id chuck the Z28. They are a dime a dozen. If you have a good S2, why give it up. They are harder finds. $300/mth is pretty good. Whats sticker on those cars. Thats no moola down right.
