Default Need fibreglass help (construction)

Ok, I had might as well live on the moon with the chances of shipping a splitter here, so I think I need to learn how to make one myself. I have zero fibreglass experience, so I am hoping DAmian or similar can offer some grass roots advice. So, do I need to make a mould out of metal first? Any specific product types better than others? I am ready to start this project and dont care how many hours it takes...

NZ951 - Sounds like fun. I've done this several times to different cars I've owned. It is time consuming, but the result is something no one else has. I have done this a couple of ways. I've made the piece out of cardboard and duct tape and then poured plaster of paris around it. Pull out the piece and you have a rough mold to lay up fiberglass. It's only good for one time, but if you're only making one who cares. Another way is making the piece out of plywood, only slightly smaller allowing for the layers of fiberglass. Then lay the fiberglass over the plywood. Leave extra tabs on the piece to screw to the plywood after it hardens so that you can work the piece without having to chase it all over the work bench. You can trim the tabs off when you're almost done sanding the piece. Another idea that you shouldn't ignore if you're thinking of working with fiberglass anyway, find one that is already made from fiberglass and ask the company to cut it into smaller pieces for shipping. Then glass it back together when you get it. Much easier than building one from scratch. http://dirtracing.freeyellow.com Checkout my website. The rear spoiler on the 73 Mach1 and the front spoiler on the 73 Corvette are both ones that I've made in my garage, so give it a shot.

I thought about the cutting it for shipping idea, but people said I would not go back together well... good advice all round thanks.
