hmm, as someone who's spent about 8 years in the powder coating business, doing very high end work. I'm not quite sure if I should open my mouth or not, so I'll keep checking on this thread, and if you have questions or want any opinions, I will gladly answer.

I have a powdercoated intake manifold I just got. The thing is the machined surface that makes contact with the throttle body and the head is coated also. If I put gaskets on it and torque her down will I have vacuum leaks?

Hello Brian , glad to see you still have the car ,still looks great .Just helped nephew build a building and equipped it with oversize ovens and blasters just to do powder coating now and ceramic a little later on. I can put a Harley in the oven or 2 ricers. Doing commercial stuff for various companies ( Champion ). Already out of room 800 ft, going to 2500, walk in ovens in design now. When you guys do this , be careful and wear a mask. Keep the oven spotless or you might get a nasty surprise.

Wow great work. So realistically.. how much would it cost to get myself something to do a few parts in black?

black is the easiest and most common color done. If you're not picky about the shade of black, we would throw it in with another batch and it would typically be about 10 bucks/ sq ft. wheels were about 45-50 each. . . but we charged 60/hr for media blasting. If its just a couple brackets, you might be able to get away with bringing a guy a 6pack to the back door.

Also use a good air source, with dry air. We had an air dryer, and aftercooler setup on a 10hp Kaiser (sp?) compressor. A good spraybooth and dust-free environment is a must too. . . a good ground is important as well.

From a quality differance, the home setups vs. professional are about the same as using Krylon to paint your car vs. getting it painted at a professionals. We had about 80 grand invested in tools, but I'm sure you can get a cheapo eastwood kit for a couple hundred. I think you'd be money ahead just taking your parts to a good shop that does alot of automotive parts.
