Default "Restore" Engine Restorer and Lubricant...opinions??

What do you think about this stuff? It sounds too good to be true and it also sounds like something I'm willing to try. Anyone else used this stuff and what do you think of it?

I just got off the phone with O'Reilly's Auto Parts and he says that it has been repackaged as "Adrenaline Power Restorer" and he says that he's actually seen results from this stuff. This is a buddy of mine (I'm at the O about 3 times a week ) and he usually shoots pretty straight with me...

What a crock. If your engine is leaking oil and you have bad compression, you have more serious problems than to stick in some chemical nonsense. Time for a rebuild......

I may do my own "independant lab research" this weekend. I just need a compression gauge...

Oh I'm 100% sure it'll raise the compression. For how long though, and what will it cover up and damage in the process.......?

I used the stuff in my Nissan... It's kinda like B&G MOA, in that it thickens the oil and keeps bad sounds quieted... the Nissan had a lifter knock that sounded like a diesel...put a can of that stuff in, and it was undetectable. Sold the car a week later

Note: buyer knew that we had put it in the engine, and knew of the lifter knock...we made sure of it.

I got discouraged and put that I was selling in my sig, but actually I had a dream last night that I should be patient and continue the restoration. Strange. I left that in my sig to gauge interest.

btw, the door panels look great. I painted my speaker grills black and they look pretty good, IMO...

Well, against everyone's better judgment...I used the stuff. Here's my story:

For some reason, I had a very inconsistent car. One time I'd start it up and she'd purr like a kitten. The VERY NEXT TIME I'd start it up, it sounded and felt like it was running on 3 cylinders...3 bad cylinders at that...and it would smoke REALLY BAD!!! I'm talking a James Bond type smoke screen, 4 lane highway wide and thick. The smoke actually would start coming into the cab from the firewall AND the spare tire hole (I've got no spare). The next time I started it up...who knows which car would appear. It was frustrating.

At this point, I was thinking a rebuild or a replace, so I figured, "what the hey, I'll use this stuff". Here are some numbers...

Pre-Adrenaline Power Restorer compression numbers (for cylinders 1, 2, 3, & 4 in order...and I didn't have the throttle open, so the numbers are lower than they should be, but you'll get the idea): 106, 88, 95, 86. After the restorer and a couple of miles the compression was 112, 112, 112, 125.

And honestly, I could care less about those numbers. I get the same car every single time. It purrs! If your car is having troubles, try this stuff first. It will, at very least, delay the inevitable. These are my results with the poo. Oh, and by the way, I added it to a semi-fresh (about a week and a half old) oil change with Mobil One 15W50 Synthetic.

"Those numbers are weird."

Yeah, they're way too low initally. When I had severe engine-damage with rings cracked into 5 pieces and a major 3mm deep x 10mm wide gouge in my cylinders, the compression was still 75-80psi in those bad cylinders. The 1 good cylinder was 147psi and 1 marginal cylinder was 125psi... Hmm....

Have you done a leakdown test? Before & after?

Why would people need auto repair shops if this was all they need.

The compression is way low before and after. You will need a top end rebuild sooner or later.

Oooo...good idea. I'll try that...

Well, I didn't do a leakdown test and I know that a rebuild of some kind is in my future. I just wanted to make it drivable right now until I have the time and funds to fix it.

It went from skipping, hardly running and smoking like the back end of James Bond's Aston to running smooth and working great.

If an engine rebuild isn't affordable in the near future, maybe this stuff will hold off the inevitable grim reaper of engines for a couple of months or more...I know this stuff isn't a permanent fix for anything though, so if you use it, don't go into it thinking this is a replacement for a good mechanic.
