look at it. it helps if you know what a new one looks like, but if the 2 brushes are significantly different lengths or either is worn down to a nub, it may be bad.

If you got it out and its original, replacing it is not a bad idea.

Iceshark, sells a good quality adjustable voltage regulator. Send him a PM to find out availability and price.

Just purchased a NEW Bosch unit for US$43, saved me another $40 or so for shipping from USA

PS: I am replacing my alternator with a rebuild one i had laying around for 3 years, i took off the voltage regulator, and misplaced it

Should be more careful next time!!!

Hussam,

Do you know the voltage set point on the replacement Bosch unit? If it is 14.0 or 14.1 you probably don't want to keep it. You want at least 14.4v. Makes a big difference in recharging the battery faster and the whole electrical system.

The adjustable ones I sell are only $16.50 and since you and Rehan are getting two sets of battery cables in one box it won't cost much more than a few cents to drop a regulator in the box. What is another ounce added to almost 15 pounds?

It is a pretty easy decision. Get it and put it in when you dig down to the alternator to bolt up the new alt cable. You might want to mention this to Rehan next time you talk to him and I can throw in two.

Hmm........maybe on the S2, but what i HEARD of is that the voltage regulator replacement requires the removal of the alternator.

Nevertheless, i do want one, and will talk to Mr. Rehan on getting one as well

Sorry for the double post, but i just remembered something Dan.

Didn't Mr. Rehan already purchase one? he did go for the new lens and bulbs (not the full kit that you sell though), doesn't that include the adjustable voltage regulator??

Yup, you are right, as I look at my records he did get an adjustable VR with the rest of the items. You are also correct in that I have never known a 951 owner that hasn't had to pull the alt to change out the regulator. Many have tried, all have failed.

Does anybody change the output of their AVR? Is the output any different than the stock voltage? And wouldnt changing it to a higher value possibly hurt directly or the lifespan of the some eletrical components (like the instrument cluster, or radio)?

thanks,
-Stellar

I was able to replace mine without taking the alt out. Mine is not a turbo. FYI, I left it at 14.4,but I am thinking of turning it up,my gage (cold) reads just under 14,hot it reads just below13.How do you adjust it.? I do have icesharks AVR, and the neg Battery cables installed, but not the positives. Will the volts increase when the pos cables are intalled? Iceshark??????

Sorry to sort of take the thread off point, but tell me when Rehan has made the wire transfer so I can get your box off. I won't get any notice for a month unless I check my account every day.

To unreal_news:

There is a small white plastic screw for the pot inset in the back. Just turn it to adjust voltage, but it would like a tiny screw driver. Clockwise while facing the VR for higher voltage an counter for less. It is set at 14.4v and you can move it 0.5v off that either way. I don't want to get into a tech discussion on how high you can move it.There are a lot of cars running 15.0v without problems. My people, I want at 14.4v. End of story.
