Default S2 supercharger research. . . MAF, or MAP?

I'm researching building a supercharger setup for my car and have a great deal of it mapped out in my mind (1.6L lysholm on a fabbed intake, low psi for now and low compression pistons for more boost later). The part I'm stuck on is fuel and ignition management. I'd like to stay away from a standalone system such as FAST or AEM to keep the cost down, but I'd like to upgrade from the flapper box, so I've been doing some reading. After searching for MAF, and MAP here and while getting some information, lots of it seems to contredict itself a bit, and I feel like I'm getting nowhere. (some subject reading here) I'm pretty much sold on the MAF idea, but the aformentioned thread suggests that differant boost levels (partial throttle) will yield the same AF ratios, and that MAF systems allow for easy upgrading. On the other hand, A vender website says that the MAF is calibrated for a specific horsepower level. I've also heard about chips not matching setups well, are there any reflash-able chips available?

Edit: after re reading a couple times its making more sense, but still please answer the following:

Where can I find some good, reliable information on this subject without weeding through a bunch of hoolaballoo?

Get a use MAF. The best solution would be to do
the install & get a chip map for your set-up on a Dyno.
You guys are lucky. You could get Danno, Sweanders
or Fast 951 to map the chip. With custom chip you do
not have to worry too much about the calibration of
the MAF but you would have to dyno tune & map to
get the best out of your set-up. Good luck

The MAP systems require a variable-position TPS to provide part of the load-sensing axis. There are limitations with both MAF and MAP on top of the stock Motronics system. Best to get a programmable system or build your own Megasquirt. The new Megasquirt has higher resolution than the Motronic.

DarkLightning is actually (although Danno might be too, but I know Dark is for sure!)

My buddy and I are looking at buying a sandrail that has a VW 1600 engine. The carb is AWOL, so we're planning on megasquirting that. After that, its my 951

Yes theedge, I remembered Dark talking about
it but I think he said something about the crank
sensor costing big bucks.

Good point Were looking for something fun, cheaper than my 951 and his MR2 Turbo, and different. We figure a VW powered sandrail should do the trick, and wed like to make it street legal as well (we have funny aspirations of driving down nightclub row in it ). We found a half done project, basically frame, suspension, engine. Needs pedal cluster, steering, suspension work, tires, and some real TLC, misc other stuff.

Sorry for the thread hijack

Yeah that was one of the downsides IIRC.

Back on topic: what about just running the computer from a turbo, and getting a chip burned?

You'll need to carry over all the sensors and harness. For that kind of trouble, you should just pick up a GM EFI system. These uses cheaper sensors for engine, air temps, crank-rotation, etc. The GM system also controls the entire car, radiator fans, boost-controller, heater, has multiple RPM-switches for variable-cams, etc. Then pick up a chip-emulator board and replace the ROM with that. Then you've got a PC-programmable system and the emulator board stores 16 sets of maps so you can leave your laptop at home. You can pick up the GM boxes and harnesses with all the sensors at a distmantler for about $150-200 complete.
