Default Waterboy history

OK
Can someone point me towards a history of the watercooled beasties.
If I use terms like, ' 951' '968' ' ' 944s' '944s2' etc over here I just get a blank look.
Someone give me a history so I can tell people.

Pretty cool! Except for the part:
HIGH PERFORMERS-Porsche used several methods to make the 924 family a high perfomer, starting with a turbochager, then designing a new and larger twin-cam and moving to 16 valves and then adding turbocharging to that
I don't think Porsche ever made a turbocharged 4-valve/cyl. production car until the 996TT. The 924GTP that raced at LeMans was a testbed for the upcoming 951 and used a 4-valve turbo motor, but the 4-valve head never made itinto the production car... Even the 968 TurboRS used a 2-valve head similar to the '89 944NA, except with super-thick 951-type ceramic liners to really narrow down the exhaust ports...

Here's another good site: http://www.cantonia.com/watercooler.html , be careful with the "Wheel Offset Info" section though, it's got numerous errors since it was carried straight over from the 944-FAQ.

Another good resource is the "Porsche Models" section of Ben McDaniel's Waletail website. A subset of it has been archived here at the St.Louis PCA: http://vista.pca.org/stl//models.htm

Anyone know of what happened to Ben McDaniel? I think he was going to Mississippi State and has since graduated and moved somewhere...
