Default Taking my 931 to the strip. Any suggestions?

I will be drag racing my car in the upcoming weekend. Just wondering if any of you guys had suggestions or tricks that helped you.

I'm going to leave it basically full street trim like I drive it around town, lower the tire pressure and go.

Whats the best way to launch these cars? And what would you expect for a ET and trap speed?

Its a 81 924 Turbo.

Thanks guys,
Jason

You have to improvise. Once your tires hook up you should be boosting. Feather the clutch in such a way so that you don't get hook up at an RPM before the turbo kicks in.

prepare for flames..however, i'm of the party that thinks if you have the money to pay for the cv joints and transmission...go ahead and have fun, at least you aren't on the street!

Do it, have fun, ignore the naysayers(as long as you have the money to fix any broken stuff).

if you keep your dragging, minimal, very minimal, you have nothing to worry about. everybody guns it on their way home from work which is close to the same thing anyways! as to launching the car, us the three pedal launch instead of dropping the clutch at some insain amount of rpms! as in have the clutch engaged a tad and have ur foot on the very edge of the brake and mostly on the gas, so when the christmas tree turns green, you just slam ur foot down which releases the brake and floors the gas pedal, of course while letting the clutch out as well. have fun, post results!

Heavy duty cv joints and a porsche LSD would help then?

Those items would help (never heard of heavy duty cvs, but they may be out there).

Weakest point is going to be your ring and pinion in the transmission. Short of building a transmission, or getting an S2 transmission, you don't have many options.

There is a guy selling new GKN axles for $300 a side on e-bay. Gun-drilled, nice stuff, serious CV's too.

I dont understand how a honda civic can be pounded on at the track, stock fwd tranny, burn outs and 5k clutch dumps, but a Porsche engineered tranny cant take the same abuse.

You dont think the 931 lsd would hold up?

I just look at it as if it breaks, I can rebuild it stronger and better.

It is not the LSD unit that will cause the problems. LSD may even cause MORE problems. Shouldn't LSD cause more, grip, meaning more strain on the ring and pinion? It's the ring and pinion that usually breaks.

Porsche's aren't made for drag racing, or at least 924/944's werent. :P

The transmission/cv in these cars is a design flaw. That's why the civics can and we can't.

I would think the lsd would be a bit beefier...

I would autocross/road race my car, but the nearest even is well over 3 hours away. Theres two drag tracks with in 75 minutes.

I thought the 931 tranny was pretty strong compared to the 944 tranny since the 931 was designed by porsche and not audi? That is if you have the "snailshell" 4 spd that i have been hearing about

the 931 transmission is built by porsche but the 944's tranny isn't?

I'm guessing since I wont have my fmic installed, that it would be ok to get a towel and place a bag of ice over the charge tube to cool the engine between runs?

I'll also only be running stock boost this time around, hopefully it wont be 85+ degrees like it has been lately as I wont be running it more then a few times then. Humidity sucks.

The four speed dog leg tranny is a Porsche and the 5 speed is Audi...
