I had a Bosch electrical book from years ago and it stated that the battery would, over time, discharge thru the tires to ground. For long term storage; disconnect the battery.

What permits the flow of electricity, the carbon in the rubber mix?

Those guys still also seem to be stuck on the concept of bad battery grounds specifically, when in reality the issue is bad electical system gorunds as a whole.

There is another risk for bad grounding that was just mentioned on the Titanic Porsche forum in Great Britian by a professional mechanic. If the engine ground is poor the juice likes to flow back the torque tube, through the rear wheels and up the ABS sensors. Leave it go long enough and you burn them up.

I've never heard about this before but the Brits like to drive their cars year round and can get some serious electrical cable corrosion so I could see this happening.
