Default Starter Motor noise

Well, just today when i started my 924S it made a nice rattle noise as the starter motor was engaged. I took a look at the motor and noticed that one of the bolts that holds the shell of the motor on is missing.

Does anyone have one of these bolts laying around? Perhaps from a non-operating motor?

Thanks,

~Mark~

I don't have the bolt... However, I'll add my problems to this thread...

very intermittantly, like, once a week or less, my car after the starter gets the car running, and I let go of the key, as the bendix retracts back into the housing away from the flywheel, It makes a loud squeal until it stops spinning (usually a second at the very most.)... it's like (imagine the text as sounds)

rah ta ta *VROOM* SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAALLLLLL brt brt brt brt brt brt brt

(Rah ta ta indicates starter turning over engine...., brt brt brt indicates idling)

Starter is less than a year old, and is a Bosch Remanufactured starter.... is it dying on me? can I douse it with an electronics cleaner and be safe?

Porschephile, mine does almost exactly the same thing, except mine sounds like I have some kind of animal stuck in one of the belts, or at least that's what I thought the first time I did it. It does it every time the engine is cool or cold, not when it's hot, is your problem similar?

I suspect it's worn out inside, and that the noise is the rotating part rattling around and squeaking as it rubs on things. I was going to take mine apart, and re-grease it inside.

Maybe my issue isnt just this missing bolt then.... ive decided that the sound is more of a grinding, and only occurs while the starter is engagned (while i am cranking the engine) . Time for a new starter?

Had the same sound for a while, check all the bolts that hold the starter in place, finally figured out one of mine was loose, had to replace the starter because it chewed up the starter gear in the week or so it took me to get the time to get under the car and check it all out.
