Weber K294 Conversion Kit for 1981 924?
I have been looking arround for one of the and they are very expensive. ($1395.00) Does anyone know a good place to get a rebuilt one or something not so high?
Are there any major snags in doing the conversion?

I had a '78 that I converted over to Webers. It also had hedders, a Web cam and test pipe and the little car ran great, out running the early 944's of the era. I had a piece of aluminum fabricated the size of one of the injectors, with a hole throught it, and used it as a vacumn source for the brakes, as the intake manifold did not have a port for vaccumn. The 'Wow' factor when I rasied the hood was terrific. I sold the car to a fellow in Atlanta and offen wonder whatever happened to the car? It was gray with Gotti wheels.

OK since I think its safe to assume you're talking carbs, I'll go ahead and give you some info that probably explanes the price and will shed a bit of light. The reason the price is so high is probably because Weber carbs are history. The company in Spain that was manufacturing them is closed up (did so over a year ago) and finished as far as carburetor production goes. All production of spare parts is finished as well. Finito. Basta. No more, probably forever.
Because of this, alot of 911 guys are going with PMO carbs, and the 4 banger air cooled guys are either going with what ever Webers they can ****** up or Del'ortos (however those went out of production during the 90s are parts are quite hard to come by) or what most guys have been doing in the past year is either having their original Solexes remanufactured or buying sets of Solexes and having them remanufactured. Carb remanufacturing costs about 900-1200 depending on who you send it to -but remanufacturing is way beyond a normal carb rebuild (which is more or less replacing seals and gaskets and stuff). Remanufacturing involves remachining the bores, new butterflies, and all new moveable parts as well as milling down the bases which are often times warped because of being overtightened in its past. If you have or find a set that needs remanufactured, you should probably go to Harry Bieker.

If you cant find a good set, you can always buy a crummy set of Webers and have em remanufactured. Another option is to see if there is a Holly conversion kit, which i would immagine would be more suitable for a 924/44 series than Webers.. but then again I really wouldnt know for sure -just my SWAG.

Oh.. i just forgot somthing you may want to look into. EMPI, a VW aftermarket company started making carbs to fill in the gap Weber left open earlier this year. As far as I know, the only carbs they are making are IDF replicas, however you may want to see if they expanded into other types. If all else fails its better than nothing.
