That's what I was referring too... does anyone here have a pic of this? I lost my "Cup" badge pics when my HD crashed a few months back & would like them again...

YES!!! Thank you!!! Those are the exact ones I lost- It was Asarus... couldn't remember... he took (or had a friend take) that dash picture just for me b/c I he had told me about that badge & I had never seen one before... not a big deal really, but, still- unique, so, I think it's cool... That must be an original Turbo S- the very first of the original ones w/Silver Rose Metallic & Burgundy Plaid interior... Many people do not like this interior, but, it has really grown on me- old & worn out is not so good, but, cleaned up & nice looking, it can be kind of cool... Also like the paint.. it's kind of a chamilion type thing- even my Zermatt Silver is- certain lights really make it look different... in certain lights, my Zermatt looks just like the silver rose, actually, but not often...

Does anyone know where to get these Cup badges? I assume a French dealer could possibly get them? If not, does anyone know anyone who might be able to duplicate them in some way? I know I'd have to move my "Turbo" badge to the left a little to fit in in correctly, but, plan to repaint my car soon & would like something a little more unique for it- I know some guys made some stickers a long time ago that said "951" but I'd rather have a badge- even considered finding an "S" badge from other Porsche's & putting it on after my "Turbo"- I don't know... not that important, but, would just add a nice touch... Kind of like the Porsche crest inside door handles that came on some cars- maybe 924S...??? Not sure, but, those are rare too...

Well, as much as I'd like to reveal a Penske-grade "unfair advantage," after measuring my car's speed at 3000 rpm (indicated) in all 5 gears with a precise GPS device, and doing a spreadsheet with the appropriate calculations, after which it still looked like my car had a different final drive..............

I then compared my tach readings with the readings from a digital handheld multi-tester, and found my tach reads 11% high (at least at 3000 rpm indicated, turned out to be 2700 rpm actual). After putting the actual engine speed of 2700 rpm into my spreadsheet, the GPS speeds matched the calculated speeds (with standard tranny ratios and final drive) within 1%.

So, bottom line, my car has standard tranny gears and final drive.

Paul- that's cool... at least now we know... I'd still like to know why my tach is off at ~80mph range, but, is definately right on at ~60mph & back on again by ~100mph... Doesn't make sense to me, but... Oh well... I remember a great top speed test in the late '90's- a Viper GTSR, an NSX, & a a993TT S. They were all tested at top speed in BOTH directions & were measured w/precise testing equipment & they checked the indicated speeds VS the actual speeds This was either R&T or C&D- I have the magazine somewhere... anyway, ALL 3 cars were off... the NSX was closet- was w/in a couple mph at ~175 mph or so IIRC... the Viper was w/in 6 or 7mph & very close to 185mph average. The $150k 993TT S, however, was off by far... Not only that, BUT, was not even consistently off- in one direction it was off by 12mph & the other way, it was off by ~21mph!!! It showed an indicated 212 or something on that one- it's gearing wouldn't have allowed that anyway, but... either way, it's 2-way average REAL speed was ~188mph, so, it was the fastest, but, I always thought it was wild how such a high-tech, expensive, state of the art car could be off by so much... I always tell that story to BMW guys who don't believe that their speedos could possibly be off in any way, even though we ALL know that BMW's read notoriously high- Hell, even C&D tells us this & we ALL know how much C&D loves their Bimmers.... just goes to show... nothing's perfect in this world I guess...

No way unfortunately...
The french (104 units) 944 Turbo S were called 944 Turbo Cup (street car, absolutely nothing to do with the race car but this was the commercial name... shame...) here and had this Cup badge on top of the glove box and another Cup badge near the Turbo badge on the rear of the car.

The only way to get such a badge currently may be to get it from a wrecked car i think... because Porsche don't have it any more and no other vendors sell that..

Otherwise, i updated my Turbo Cup registry adding the Escort Cup cars on the bottom of the page with the current information

Thanks for the work on this thread, its been the best one I have seen in a while! Paul, any chance I could meet up with you and get a close-up look at your hood sometime? I have a factory Turbo Cup hood that I picked up a good while ago that was damaged, and I would like to try to fully restore it. I don't know if thats a possible clue for one of the missing cars, by the way. I picked the hood up from a dismantler in Pittsburgh that had gotten a wrecked Cup car, but I am not sure what year car it was.

It's my dream to own one of these cars...

I'm looking for some detail pics of the underside of the hood, that shows how the fiberglass was laid, and if there is a factory part number on it, plus location of any factory stickers. There's some damage on mine about 8 inches above the hood latches (I also want to get a detail shot of the brackets that the hood pins insert into under the hood) where it looks like it got cut, and I also have some damage that looks like heat warpage in the center of the other side of the hood. In all likelihood, its not a a "saveable" piece, but given how rare they are, I'm certainly not going to be tossing it. If I can make it presentable, I will put it on my '87, if not, its a display item in my garage.

Now that Scott mentions a dismantler in Pittsburg, that reminds me of something that may help. Eric Steinel (Steinel's Autowerks, Twinsburg, OH) once told me a story about buying a 951 intake manifold from someone (I think he may have said in PA somewhere) and when it came in, he was expecting stock but this one was very different, it was magneseum!!(sp?) He showed me the part, it certainly didn't look stock. Of course Eric was very pleased with this near-freebie. If you were really interested, I bet he remembers the name of the place he bought that great intake.

Scott- is the hood you have lighter than stock hoods? Do you have any idea on it's weight? I've always wanted a CF hood, but have heard bad things about fit & finish on many of the current ones- I'd just love to save 20lbs or so from the front of this car- Actually, I think real CF ones save a lot more than that....

Centerpunch... that's a beautiful pic- do you have any others of the rest of the car? I'd love to see a few...
