They are yanking your chain. Each and every one of them. I have never understood this list and some of the antics.
In '86 Porsche offered the first 951. A "factory" turbocharged car.
Prior to that several other companies such as Callaway took an almost stock car and did modifications to make a turbocharged 944 achievable. Callaway sold several dozen cars. I am not sure of the #'s and I am sure that someone will post up the #'s if asked.
You really have 3 options.
1. Turbocharge the car, it's gonna cost you $ but if you want the car and wanna invest the $ it would be a great improvement. If I were to do it I would backward engineer the Callaway design and there are several people on the board with a lot of knowledge on the topic.
2. Supercharge the car. It will cost you about as much as the turbocharging, once again do some research.
3. Rebuild the engine with higher hp specs. That's gonna cost you more than the either of the above too without a doubt.
That said. Anyone wanna post up the picture of the changes? 944 to 951? Come on? Anyone?
Good luck and welcome to the board!

I guess you could get a megasquirt engine management, custom exhaust with hi-flow cat, a cam, some headwork, a maf...that might get you 20-25 hp, and cost about $4000

Don't forget aeronautica86,
Remove any and all extra weight from the interior ect that could add another 5-10. The turbo badge is 1hp per letter so a total of up to 16 for gutted interior and badge. That would put you at 35-40hp using the setup above ^^^ Cold air intake is -2.5 so lets not go down that road at this time as we are looking for more, not less.

If you do a search you'll find that this topic has been beat to death so many around here are pretty cynical when it comes to asking about more power from an na944.
As far as a couple of quick and easy mods there are none that can make a big difference. For the money and effort of making major mods (supercharger, turbo) it would be economically more feasable to buy a 951. Although I would like to see someone with a verifiable high output na design to finally answer the question of what can be done to an na motor and at what cost.
My feeling has always been that if someone produces a h.o. na motor and documents what is required more will follow and as parts become more available the price would come down and give people additional options.

if money were no problem id get these:
individual throttle body setup or MAF(biggest restriction is the stock AFM)
stand alone engine management(if your not going the MAF route)
full exhaust system-SFR stg. 2 headers, full exhaust system from them as well
some head work
camshaft,knife-edged crankshaft
lightweight flywheel and clutch
thats crap load of money right there.
i personally would like a high reving n/a motor(sounds incredible)
hope you find what your looking for.

Lots of ways.... few of them are cheap however.
So what kind of power gains are you looking for an at what cost?
Getting a "little extra" power from a 951 is rather simple, cheap and easy. With time and money you can get big hp from a 951.
The 944 NA motors are much more difficult. Part of that is due the lack of market thus inspite of the years few parts have been developed this making any parts or upgrades that do make power difficult to find and expensive. If you are determined enough you can probably make anything happen, but from a cost vs power perspective the 951 is simply hard to beat. Trying to make the same hp a moderatle modded 951 makes from an 8v NA motor would probably cost as much as buying a complete 951 and modding it and keeping the NA. So big HP na motored car or Stock NA + Modded 951?
If you are looking for 10-20 hp it will cost you about as much as 100 to 150 hp gains from 951. On top of that you need to seek out folks to make that kind of hp. With a 951 you have choices on who's stuff to buy. With 8v NA you have see the right folks and then maybe they can get you close.

Surprised no one has mentioned the throttle cam. Simple device, cheap ($20.00 or so) adds Zero HP, but makes throttle response more linear.
Intake & exhaust will get you 5 to 10hp, depending on who you're talking to, and whether you're going uphill or downhill.
BTW: What condition is your engine in? How are the seals, gasskets, belts...etc? If they are NOT in perfect condition, then I suggest you focus on bringing the car up to spec before attempting to extract more power out of it.
If you want to go fast in the corners, then the key to that is suspension upgrades. Start with sway bars, and if that's not enough, a full coil-over suspension will do wonders in the handling department. You are better off focusing on handling, and getting the power to the pavement, instead of chasing after some ponies under the hood.
My $0.42,
