How many of you are in Charlotte NC?
I have an offer on the table for a possible move to Charlotte in May. I have friends there that love it but they've also had limited time (less than 1 year) to decide how they like it.
So, good and bad about the city? Where should I look to live (closer to downtown is best with home prices under $200k,)? How is the socal scene for a 30 year old? Any tips for starting a good life the right way?
Thanks in advance.

I lived in Charlotte from October 1994 until August of 2005. Love the place. Downtown is actually called "The Uptown". Property values run the entire spectrum. My house started in the low 70's and is currently appraised in the mid 90's. Lots of "30-somethings" hang-outs in the area. Charlotte is most definately a "target rich environment."

Charlotte is nice, if you don't mind a drive look out in Union County. The taxes are much lower and a lot more land out there. It is a nice place, but horrible drivers. For a 30 Year old there are plenty of things to do. Their is also a decent group of us that like to get together every once in a while. I would love to see your car as I have read about some time ago.

I go to school in Columbia, SC. It's about an hour or so south. I've been to charlotte many times and absolutely love the scene downtown. Can't help you much, but if looking for houses you might find something cheaper in Rockhill, SC. It's basically South Charlotte. I have no idea on home prices, but it's an idea that you might check out.

Best of luck on seeing Perry's car He has been in Atlanta quite a while now and I have yet to see it.....hint hint. Free lunch Perry if I could meet up with you some time. I am hoping to put a get together on the schedule for a couple of weeks from now - maybe you could make it to that?

I lived in Charlotte last Spring (only ~4 months though). I lived off highway 49 (tryon street) just south of 485 which was a real nice and modern location. I lived in an apartment though, so I can't comment on the housing prices. Downtown Charlotte doesn't have as much to offer as atlanta, but then again, I experienced almost no traffic jams while I was up there.

I'll be sure to meet up with you Atlanta folk before I run out of town. I've still yet to finish the odds and ends needed to get the 951 through emissions testing and registration. Still waiting on parts. Once that happens I should be out and about on the weekends.
