I have an 88 944 Turbo S and 84 944 NA race car.
My first Porsche was a 87 924S I aquired in 91. At the time I picked it up because it was a cheap Porsche. Loved the car to death. Never drove it much and one day in late 1996 with my father driving it he wreck it badly.
That was when my real Porsche odessey began.
I considered a 911SC at the time, a NA 944 and the 951.
Turns out I found my 88 944 Turbo S. All it took was one start of the engine and I loved it. Then a little bit of boost and I was addicted. I got that car in Febuary of 1997 and had it ever since. Never once have I considered selling it. It is simply too much car for me ever to part with. It performance window even stock is vast and matchs well to even many modern Porsches. I have taken the car on many Porsche club drives over my many years of ownership and never once have I felt the car could not keep up with the others.
After doing many autocross and DE events I wanted something more focused and of lower value. So I aquired and old beat to hell 84 944 and built a track car from it and remaining parts from my wrecked 87 924S. Over the year this has evolved into a very nice autocrosser and race car. A stripped, stock motor, lightly prepped suspension NA 944 is such a good race car that over 70 cars have been built to a spec set of rules in Az, colorado, and california for racing. PCA, POC, NASA all have adopted the class on a National level and SCCA has Az regional only class for the cars.
So I feel have the best of all.
My 944 Turbo S is an excellent street car that has remained stock over 9 years of use and its value has hardly dropped one bit. It is modern enough to drive daily in comfort and drive for 300 to 800 mile road trips. And has more that enough space for an extended weekend getaway with my wife. Plus all ther performance needed to hold its own on any Porsche club drive.
My 944 NA race car is simple a blast to race and very reasonable to maintain and operate.
At this point I can't see any better way to be a Porsche owner and enjoy the experience than to have these two cars. I feel there are many other Porsche owners with fancier or new cars that don't get even 10% of the ownership experience I have with these front engine cars.
Would I trade my 944 Turbo S and 944 race car for an new Porsche straight up even money. No... Although a GT3 would make me think a bit.

You didn't mention the 928...the epitome of great. Drive one and you'll have to have one...even if the reliability factor is in question. There's nothing short of a Farrari like it....and for cheap (except the maintenance...but DIY and you'll be ok...and get a good PPI). I will never sell mine...but I like my 968 for reliable travel...and my Audi TT Quatto when I absolutely HAVE to get there but the latter is more like a glorified VW. I put 450 miles on my 968 just in the last two days.

I bought my son an 86 NA and it has been a very reliable car. I spent a year in Seattle and while there I purchased my 86 951. One month after purchasing it I drove it back to Texas. for the first half of the trip I thought my gas gauge was broken since I was getting 30-33 mpg! I have now had the car for a year and it has been rock solid in the reliability area and a blast to upgrade. admittedly I am going broke with the upgrades but isn't that what hobbies are all about? I have owned numerous sports cars and this is by far the best driving and most fun of them all.

My first love is/was the 928 S4, hence my name; Tigershark. The more I looked around, the more I feel in love with the 951 and 968. Hopefully when the time is right and I can buy one, I'll know which one to get. Buying this house pushed me back 2 years, but I'll own one yet!
