Crashed my car !!! FIXING IT !! PICS on PAGE 2
I just got my car back from the garage.. RUNNING COOL! New fan switch and thermo.. it was great. Driving home from work
Dodge Durango stopped in the road, pulls over towards the breakdown lane. I go around on the left, Durango decides to turn left.
The bad news: Fender Bender
The good news: 1st time in 2 years I put collision on the car
The worse news: totaled from a small fender bender
Front valance, passenger fender and some stuff behind the fender I wasn't aware of.
The car runs perfect.. The insurance guy (Progressive/Drive) says the unless we can find used 1989 944 NA parts in good condition.. he will probably have to total the car.
In which case, should I keep the car, pay the grand deductible plus the salvage amount that the insurance company thinks they could sell it for. Or do I take the 5000 and use it towards a new one.. (thinking 968 Cab)
What to do? My first ever Porsche of 5 years! Only 78000 miles on her!
(Other things wrong, crack in dash, busted gear on driver power seat, broken passenger mirror, broken sunroof, tear in driver seat.)
But mechanical sound in all forms.
I need opinions and guidance..
For years I have read the horror stories of some of you getting in accidents.. now it's me on the other side.

Get the money, buy the salvage back assuming the strut towers are not bent, buy any year 944 fender (they are all the same other than turbo and S2), fix it and drive it.

Any year body parts from '86+ can be used to fix your car. I personally would keep the car and fix it, but it will be a labor of love depending how bad the damage is, frame damage or if its just cosmetic. I am assuming your car is an '89, remember that the 2.7L head on your car is very very valuable.

I do love to car .. very much. It seems such a shame to give up on it with such minor damage.
The insurance guy says if we can find a 1989 front valance for considerably less then the 1600 he has in his computer then he wouldn't have to total it.

Do you have any pictures of the damage? if it really was a light hit, depending where it was localized, you may just be able to get away with swapping a few body parts with used ones and getting a respray.
Ask if its acceptable if you provide the replacement parts. You can find a used front valance for a fraction of $1500, more like $150! You should not have trouble finding someone with the parts you need. Remember, the '89 front valance is no different from any other year 944, '83-89.

that sucks! (maybe)
So Progressive valued the car at $6000... $5000 + your $1000 deductible?
I'm curious what Progressive would sell the car back to you for. That may make the decision easier.

they say NADA is 6300. Minus 1000 Deductible.. 5300.
My Rep thinks the resale would be 2500 salvage. plus 1000 dedeuctible
leaves me with my car and the 2800. IF they sell it to me for 2500.

Front valence/spoiler is the same for every year 944 just like the passenger fender. The only difference from late to early car is the DRIVER side fender where there is a hole for the antenna for the early cars but NO difference for the passenger side.
Here is the best idea if you can get him to swing it. Have him cut you a check for the highest amount less than totaling the car so he doesn't total the car. Take the cash and buy the parts/repair for $1000 or less (what it would cost to buy a fender and spoiler in addition to paint).
