Default WTB 944S, S2, or turbo project

Hi,

I am bored without a 944 that needs work. I would love to buy project car. Budget is around $4000. I would like it to have a blown engine, clutch, trans, (something major) with a nicer body and interior.

I have been looking for 2 weeks and cant find anything in budget range. If anyone has seen anything please let me know!

Thanks

These are tricky cars, I hope you know what you are getting yourself into.

Don't we need to hijack this thread and debate the merits of the 951 vs. the S2??? With blown engines, maybe we can all agree that they are pretty close!

you are a glutton for punishment...

my 944S has been sitting for 2 years, taunting me with it's spun rod bearing.

I have been stalking the wylie beast and finally have it covered under a carport and have positioned the engine hoist.

Rod bearings arent fun because you have to be lying on your back the whole time, but if you are removing the engine, I dont think its THAT bad. Good luck!

I have found that when I take my time and do nice work I enjoy myself a whole lot more.

I gave the old rod bearing swap while in the car a try. it lasted about 20 miles. i've been putting off pulling the engine long enough.

I know of a turbo project 944....

some guy not too far away is selling a 1987 944S with a 1986 turbo motor. But he hasn't gotten it running yet and has no more time. Claims motor ran when he bought the crashed 1986 donor car.

needs paint too but interior is very clean and body is straight. so he says. I have not seen the car, only pictures

asking $3000 if you dare....

If it was not so far away I would go take a look at least. Especially if it had the 944S motor still hanging around.

3000 is definately high if he really needs to sell it, not too many people are going to be interested in an unknown combination of parts that doest even run yet..

Update- I went to look at that 944 turbo in NY that Mike posted, but my current 944 turbo broke down on the way there. Thought it was the alternator, swapped it out for a known good one in a Stop and Shop lot, which my brother brought to me.

Same problem with the new part, car will run for 5 minutes, die, and voltage wont come up enough for another hour to get it to start again. When running the voltage drops steadily until the car dies ~9V.

So I towed that home using my brothers 944S, which worked suprisingly well as a tow car.

Im making attempt #2 to look at it tomorrow.
