I went to advance auto parts for an alt-ac-belt. He looked it up on the computer, and then retrieved a belt. It looked jsut like the one on I had, but when I tried to install, there was no way it was fitting. Could not get it on the pulleys.
Need the correct dimensions for this belt, so I don't have to trust what they throw at me.

oh, and unless you have worked in the parts buisness or know everything about all cars, i'd bet that you would beleive your computer telling you what to sell too...hence the idiot comment is unnessacary and you might want to reconsider where YOU buy your parts.

Pelican sent me a wheel bearing that wouldn't fit on my stub axle. Everybody messes up.

If it's the same number of ribs, and only the circumference is off, adjust your AC compressor using the turnbuckle. Make sure to loosen your pivot bolts when you do this so you don't break the turnbuckle.

Most of the time on the new belts, I have to pull the compressor all the way in, and still have to work the belt on.

Ive bought several belts from advance auto- couldn't get them on, took them to a mechanic, and theey told me the belt was wrong, and put on the right one.

I am with Todd on this one. I have replaced belts in the past and they always seem kind of tight/stiff. You going to have to pull in the AC compressor as much as possible.

Go back, tell the same guy you need a radiator hose for a 79 911. If he spends more than 2 minutes on that request, you can then call him an idiot

Speaking as a former parts store manager, I know you can't always trust the measurements given in the book... it's far easier to simply ask the customer for their old belt and measure it.

And I've heard the majority of dumb comments from chuckleheads trying to be funny... "Can ya get me some blinker fluid? How about 50 yards of flight line?" I loved it when someone would come in and ask for muffler bearings, though... because the late 60s Mercedes 220/240/260 series parts microfiche actually listed the muffler suspension bits as "muffler bearings". Whenever I'd get some redneck yokel asking for those in the AutoZone or Discount Auto Parts stores I worked in, I'd immediately ask him to check the serial on his Mercedes so I could get him the proper ones... after all, there may be a difference between the three models.

The blank looks were priceless.

I will admit, however, to having played a similar prank... I called another rival store which had just opened, and in a thick, rapid-fire country accent, asked the girl who answered the phone if she had a left-hand fallopian tube for a 63 Corvair Monza with the air-cooled flat six. She looked it up, and answered that she didn't seem to have one. I thanked her kindly for her time, and hung up... I honestly don't think I could keep a straight face for that long again if my life depended on it.

The compressor is hard against the engine block, and there is no way that belt is getting on the car.
