I'm not sure what's wrong with yours but I'll describe how my '89 works. When you turn the key in the door, the lock and unlock corresponds to arm and disarm. Usuall there's a blinking red light on top of the interior lock pin indicating it's armed. There's also a button on the console in front of the shifter which allows you to lock/unlock (arm/disarm) while inside the car. On the interior swithc is a red light indicating armed. That's pretty much it. If you give me some more detail I could throw in my 2 cents as to the probelm.

yes, if i lock the drivers door then unlock it, the alarm still stays on. if i then open up the door the alarm goes off loudly, and the only way it seems to then disarm the whole system is by using the passengers side door lock.

When you unlock the driver's door, does the passenger door also unlock? if not, I'd suspect a faulty microswitch or connection within the driver's door.

I concur. My driver's door switch makes a mistake once a year or so and unlocks the doors without disabling the alarm. Keep in mind that this is a hardwired system (no digital intelligence behind it). Quiet well done considering.

Mine does the same thing but much more frequently, I'd say half the time it unlocks both doors but fails to disarm the alarm. I can't say enough how anoying this is cause the alarm is pretty loud!

I can't understand how it can unlock the passenger door but "forget" the alarm if it's a simple switch.

Any suggestions?
