So I would say that is probably the last AMW motor? I don't think there are any others left...

So this guy was just a self-proclaimed race engine builder that screwed everyone? Don't know anything about the backstory...

Harvey, I am running 22-23 psi as we speak I haven't had a chance to dyno my car yet but my butt dyno tells me I have gain at least another 40+hp with the extra psi, I run a mix of 25% xylene with pump 91 octane gas, it is expensive but safe, I have no problem with detonation and my air fuel ratio at wot is 11:7 to 12:1 max.
Btw I ran 19 psi for almost 2 years without a single failure, let's see how long it last @ 22psi, lol.
I am not the only one but there are a lot of guys out there running from 18-22 psi on these cars.

Take care

Lart

Sinceramente

Hi Dave

Just curious...what shop are you using now? Plus I am thinking the same way as David.....unless you've scored a cylinder wall, I don't see why you couldn't re-ring....since I am not all that up on our engines....can they be bored or is it just a 'replace the liner' type of engine??

If you did score a cylinder wall, would it not be a single liner that would get replaced?

Don't give up!

Wow, so this is how it all ends....

Sorry for what you have gone through with AMW. Hope you have better luck with your next car.

Thanks for the support. For the newer listers who don't know the history, a search with my user name and AMW will turn up a lengthy thread with more detail than I wish to remember. I considered bringing that thread back by posting there as Tifo suggested but there's just too much of it.
The engine is still in the car and hasn't been torn down so I don't know the extent of the damage. It still pulls like it should and even suprised a few in my run group who thought they should run away from a NA. It just loses a lot of oil in the process.
I'll probably bring it home and drive it a few more times but it's autox and DE days are over. My wife is fed up with the bills ever since the AMW rebuild and at this point I can't blame her so it will most likely be parted out at some point in the future. The shame of it is that I've put about $3k into it in the last 1500 miles, the belts barely have 1000 miles on 'em and the pads are just bedded in.
I have the original short block in my garage and it only needs rings and gaskets/seals (bearings while it's apart) but that's still more work than i'm comfortable taking on and would still involve swapping the block out which is another chunk of work i'm not ready to bite into. Seems like I have a bunch of options but most are less than realistic and may involve a divorce.
Joe, the car is at Damian's guy in Millburn.

Dave knows after my S2 was stolen and I took a financial reaming my wife laid down the law. I was able to take the $$ i got from the S2 and buy the Z28. that kept things quiet for a while. Then about six months later I was able to take the rest of the S2 money and "just a few thousand" more and buy the gray S2.

when i got the gray S2 my wife again laid down the law. if something breaks on the gray car it sits in the garage until there is enough spare money to fix it. what are the odds of that?

now with a few 'trouble free' years of S2 ownership i told her things may soon need attention. she didnt give me a hard time getting the turbo since it is basically a swap. now if something goes wrong on the turbo..... i will be in the same boat dave is in. Our wife's give us just enough rope.

Reason number 2 why I am divorced.
It is MY MONEY isn't it?

Not if you want to stay happily married, or if she also works and makes (past tense aaargh) 80k a year.
