Default KLA strut mount installation

The website says they recommend a pro do the install because of the special tools required. I'm not sure what special tools I'll need, but I want to do this install myself this weekend. Does anyone have a write-up or instructions for installing these?

you mean this sucker?

http://www.paragon-products.com/product_p/kla_944sm.htm

you dont really need any special tools, but the job is relativly simple just messy, it requires the complete removal of the shock but thats just time consuming and in no way hard

the only difficulty i forsee (i myself havent yet taken off a strut on a porsche, but i believe all MacStruts are identical in design) you will have difficulty taking off the top nut, because using handtools the nut will sping with the shaft, so you need something to hold the inside shaft while you unbolt the bolt.

using an impact gun works and can save you the trouble, but some shock manufactuer representatives have told me that there is a risk of damaging the interior of the shaft/shock.

Im pretty sure these are VW struts so it shouldnt be much different than your golf. I used a 22mm offset wrench and an allen wrench to hold the shaft of the strut. If you loosent the nut before you jack the car up you dont even need a spring compressor. Basically the operation goes like this:

Jack up the car
Place stands
Remove wheels
remove 4 nuts from strut tower
Remove the two bolts from the strut. Mark the eccentric with nail polish or paint so the alignment doesnt go totally out of whack.
Compress spring
Remove top nut
Then just replace the parts you are going to replace and reinstall.

Orginal-

We do that because the spring is under load and not everyone has a spring compressor. We decided better to go to a pro than have someone possibly get hurt in the process. Send me an email and I will detail the install for you.......
