Really? Wow, for what it is worth, I have all four caps and Dunlap SP8000 tires on them with less than 6,000 miles.

That makes me really happy. I guess having an 86' 951 isn't so bad.

Real Fuchs are Forged and lighter than replicas. More importantly, real Fuchs are more likely to bend, not break. Fakes have a reputation for cracking out the middle.

BTW, you can get Fuchs made into 17 and larger diameters probably in any offset you want by Lindsey. Just supply some REAL 6x16" Fuchs. They cut the centers out and build them onto new hoops.

I always heard that Fuchs were mad light but I never really knew how much until I picked one up. They are definitely insanely light!!

I just started another thread on replicas and the aging of real Fuchs for racing, as not to hijack this one. The value of Fuchs wheels is directly related to how scarce and/or in demand they are. There are 15's out there as wide as 11" and 8/9 16" combos as well, but they go for mega dollars because there so few of them made and they are highly sought after by guys doing 100% accurate restorations or high end resto-mods.

All of these factors are missing in the Cookie Cutter, Phone Dial market....plenty of them and not too many people using them for restorations. These wheels BTW, I think, were both made by ATS (a German company), while Fuchs made their trademark five star models, Club Sports and Manhole Cover 928 wheels...all forged. Don't know who made the cast D90's.

You want something even better? How about late offset Fuchs? I read somewhere that Porsche only made like 104 of them (26 sets). I could be mistaken, but I do know a set of those wheels would be worth more than many members' cars.
I think this is just forum nonsense/banter. I see this written here every once in awhile. I have never seen a set of these myself nor any part#'s for them. Would love for someone to supply proof of this to set the record straight. Until then, I highly doubt their existance.

Something to keep in mind is the fact that the replica 7/8x16" Fuchs are copies of the 911 style Fuchs wheels and do not fit over 951 calipers. The 9x16" replica Fuchs do fit over 951 calipers though.

It is true the copies are cast rather than forged. The real issue with the earlier cast replicas is the fact that they were exact copies of the forged ones, in regards to thickness and design. Forged wheels tend to be stronger than cast, which allows for them to be thinner in critical areas. Try to copy the exact design and thickness, and you will see strength problems. That is why many of the earlier cast Fuchs replicas have broken. As mentioned in the other thread, more modern replicas are thicker (both in key areas of the petals and the rim/lip areas).

Cast wheels are not a bad thing when they are originally designed with the idea that they are going to be cast rather than forged. Most wheels on most cars on the streets today are cast and give years of service.

Aluminum cracks by nature, it tends to crack before it bends. Even factory Fuchs that are getting old and have seen years of hard service are suspect (as mentioned in the other thread). Keep in mind that the last Porsche car to roll off the lines with Fuchs was a MY89 model. This means even the newest Fuchs take-off is 18ish years old.

Forged wheels are harder and stronger (higher ultimate strength) but DO NOT bend much before breaking since its more brittle. The cast wheels tend to bend way before the forged wheels break though aluminum used in wheels tend to crack before it bends as tifo mentioned due to the nature of aluminum and the annealing (type of cooling process).

In regards to price, if they are very nice, I will bet the final eBay price is just north of $1200.

Would the 16" Fuchs off an 83 911 have the right offset for my 951? Came across a set, thinking these would be a nice change from the phone dials. What are they going for these days?

I also think the Fuchs are the best looking wheels on a 944. I picked up mine for $400 with almost new tires. I know I got lucky. A more accurate price would have been about $900. Mine came off of a 911 that the guy purchased brand new.

I have 20 15" Fuchs.
The 7x15's go for about $200-300/ea - Narrow body guys want them
The 8x15's go for about $150/ea - mostly Racers/Dr guys
They are all early offset.
