Just wondering.... trying to make a plan for the next few months.
It involves cars, that's all I can say!
And by workable, I mean basically drivable but needing some love. Perhaps some updates, perhaps some interior.

For a bit more, mine is available. I'm willing to negotiate a bit on price, if you can pick it up (or have it shipped) prior to March 17th.

The other thin to remember is that an old beat 951 is twice as expsensive to get working properly as is a 944 NA 8 Valve. car. My other thoughts are spend 6k and get less suspect car.

I agree the midwest one is far away but my parents live in Detroit, Mich and I could probably swing some garage space to store it, then come home late spring, fix it up, and drive it back here. And I know it would take a bunch of work.
Frankly I would rather have something closer that I could drive back here before starting the rebuild process again.
Steve, yours is tempting but... timing is just a tad too quick perhaps. Let me think about it.

Where do you find a better car?
For example.
Alot less "mystery" with this car. Repaired driver's seat and new shift boot would work wonders for this car.

Yeah, from experience, buying a $5-7k car will cost a lot more than buying a $9-11k car, especially with a Turbo. You can get some really nice examples for $9-11k.
I thought I got a deal on my $5700 Turbo that "needed some work". I'm easily into it for what some of the well setup track cars are going for, and I'm not done, yet. I will never make this mistake, again.

Eric,
If you are serious about a Turbo I know of one just near my father. Red/black 86. Stock with 80k miles. Nice shinny paint with stong interior. Not show quality, but still quite nice. It is a 3 owner car. My father bought the car in 2000 from the original owner. He did a few track days in the car (5-6) and a couple concours with it. He eventually got a little older and stopped tracking it. Then sold it in 2003 or so his neighbor. Neighbor has had it garaged since then and is looking for the "right buyer" for it. As for cost? 8-9k is a rough guess. It would need new tires since I think the Yoko A032R's the my father put in it are still there. Probably could use a t-belt check as well due to years.
Really if I wanted a nice street driver 951 I would be all over this. Paint is better than my 951 and the interior is a bit nicer too. I just don't like all black and prefer my Turbo S.

Well, essentially I'm looking at picking up another street car. My 8V '44 is a compromise, and you know how that goes.... coming to the conclusion it's all or none.
Would love to have another sporty car for the street. It's either a high mileage 964 or a 951... I love 911's but I'm thinking for now it would be better to stick with something familiar.
Damn cars... why can't I have a cheaper freakin hobby?

A 944 NA for the track and 951 for the street is a perfect set-up!
I do think however that ANY car you pick-up should be pretty road worthy to start with. While you many not want to spend $$$ on the car something tells me you are not looking for another "project" either.
BTW.. An S2 might be nice. 60 more hp than 944 and a little cheaper than 951 without all the fuss of a turbo.
