Default Hi Flow Cat.

Does anyone know which high flow cats will fit on an 86 NA for a decent price? I'm looking to replace the factory cat.
Sorry, I'm not too informed in the exhaust department.

Thanks in advance

You can get Carsound high-flow cats off of eBay for $55 shipped. Just order a cat for the right diameter of pipe (my stock '83 exhaust appears to be 2 1/8"), then take everything to an exhaust shop or a friend with a welder. The stock cat is pretty long, so it will require adding some pipe to the new cat.

Yea, I used a carsound on my Volvo, but I don't know what diameter you need for your Porsche (mine is not here to check).

do they change the sound of the car in any way?

EDIT: and i forgot, do you measure the diameter of your exhaust pipe from the inside or from the outside?

Thanks

The stock non-turbos are all 2.25" IIRC, and Turbos are 2.5" stock. There wouldn't be any reason to go larger than 2.5" on an n/a 944.

i have 4 porsche 944es . the 3 - 944 na with a 2.5 L uses a 2 inch ID D.O.M. oem pipe and the 16 valve 944S uses a 2.25 ID pipe . on my 84 944 i installed a magnaflow high flow cat. part # 54304 with shipping it was 82. dollars from jegs.com . I D - inside diameter , D.O.M.- drawn over mandrel . you will feal little to no gain in horse power because the oem cat. is a high flow cat. i think it was , from when i cut my 944 cat in half i counted 32 cells per inch and the one i cut in half off a honda accord was 56 cells per inch . that was a long time ago .but the less cells per inch the more flow you get . cats will have one of 2 cores . a platinum core or a ceramic core ether one is fine for your car, if an every day driver.the cat installed on my 944 did not change the sound it all .

i should add that if your cat is braking down and starting to rattle than some times the little peaces might start to clog the muffler too.
