Default Japan 951

Just arrived back in the US from another vacation to Japan and thought I’d share a few pictures, including those of an apparent 1991 944 Turbo. The cars in Japan always amaze me, from the sheer variety to the efficient size and ingenuity. Enjoy.

View from the station of the ancient capital of Nara. The small car rules when space is at a premium.

Postal worker with car, near Senso-Ji temple (Asakusa) Tokyo

Fill ‘er up, near Tsukiji fish market Tokyo

Skyline in “rural” Saitama prefecture

Lambo and Fit near Marunouchi station Tokyo. I also saw several other Lambos and a Ferrari F50 in a parking structure in Osaka, but was unable to photograph them due to security.

Spotted on a rainy morning about ½ mile from Ueno station, North Tokyo. It appears to be a 1991 model, note the bridge spoiler. It is very unusual to see a 951 in Japan so I was quite surprised.

The 944 looks great, but the rims are terrible. Why must people put those on, the stock wheels are much nicer.

Do many people in Japan speak English? Seems like Asia would be a neat place to visit.

Great pics and thanks for sharing. Always wondered what wheels that color would look like on a black 951. Interesting that it is LHD.

I personally think the car/wheels look great, however I never understood the obsession of running without centercaps on a street car

^ ^ ^ It's what you do when someone steals your Porsche crest centers

Nice pics, thanks!

Yeah, confused too. Maybe they can't get anything on there? Looks like a non-sunroof car too, maybe? Wonder if those are Volks or Ray's Eng. or?

Owning a LHD car in Japan is something of a mark of distinction, and to show off how rich you are. I remember seeing a program on TV once about car culture in Japan, and it seems the Yakuza are very fond of black cars in LHD. Usually high end Mercs though, I don't remember hearing anything about Porsches

Yeah Ben, I was thinking Volks or similar. Good looking wheels on the 951, $$ Im sure in those sizes. Try going to the S2000 forums...people with centercaps are the minority

Kinda like the people who run their FWD Hondas with steelies on the front with street tires. Don't let any of the craziness rub off on you over there!

Those look like the exact same rims as on the silly white ricemobile in the pictures above.
