Default Anyone swapped their exterior bulbs for LEDs?

parking lights, brake, turn, etc.

I'm looking into this b/c I now need colored bulbs for my clear lenses. The LEDs don't seem to cost much more than the incadescents. I don't like the idea of seeing the colored incadescent bulbs through the clear lenses during the day, so the LEDs seem like a good idea. They're also cooler, so I don't have to worry about my cheapo lenses melting.

Anyone do this?

P's!

Do I need to run special relays for the LED swap? That sounds like a pain in the ***.

Special relays are needed to prevent the car from thinking you have a burnt out turn signal due to a lower current draw.

I've thought about it, but decided not to. Of course, I don't have clear lenses.

These look nice, but $22/pair is a bit much.

www.superbrightleds.com - no affiliation, just a happy customer... they also have the required ballast resistors and/or electronic flasher relays to work with LEDs.

Poor quality, but these are BRIGHT!! I never wired in a load equalizer or anything, so the blinkers are "ricer status".... They look awesome day/night. These were $16 for a pair from Autozone, I did brake, driving, and indicators.

I like those... were they just plain ol' leds or did autozone have some sort of special connector?

Nope, they mounted directly in the stock fittings. They are red bulbs, and look awesome in real life. The video is poor quality, and doesn't quite capture the brightness.

Default pinpoint light source in the video

The lights shown in the video are pointing straight at the lenses. A regular bulb has light projected to the reflectors and fills the whole chamber with a more equal light.

I believe www.superbrightleds.com has some LED's made to mimic regular bulbs in that they have extra LED's that are aimed at a 90 or 45 degree angle to hit the reflectors.

+1 on www.superbrightleds.com

Rick is right, they've got some with led's aimed out the side so they pretty much light up the whole reflector. I've only got them in the front marker lights and am quite happy with them....they're also the ONLY amber bulbs I could find that fit in there.

I don't know about the flasher relay bit since I've got plane old boring ones for the turn signals.
