In the past 3 months I've gotten a total of five flat tires. I thought at first it might have been because of the old tires I had on the 16 inch rims, but then I switched to 17 and the problem still occurs.

So this morning I'm driving to the airport, park at the garage, look at my car as I'm walking away (as I'm sure we all do) and notice the left rear tire is a bit flat. I go back to the car, look closer and see a big nail sticking into the tire.

I've changed my route but I still continue to get debris in my tires - is there any way to avoid this? Or am I just stuck becoming an expert tire repair patching guru?

I guess when I arrive tomorrow I have a flat tire to look forward to...

my dad got a flat tire the day after he bought his new BMW... the bummer of it is, you're not supposed to fix run flat tires...

that didn't stop dad though...

Were your tires Falken by any chance? Out of a total of 12 Falken tires I have driven on (three cars), I had four flat tires (and two of the three cars see maybe 2k miles per year). Other than this 33% flat tire rate from Falkens, I haven't had a flat in more than ten years. I am wondering if Falkens are somehow cheaply made and/or less resistant to punctures than more expensive tires.

it would help if you stopped driving on the shoulder! but more seriously its just the luck of the draw, and if you dont have too much tread left it doesn't help at all. ::coming from a guy who works on tires all day::

Not to make you feel bad but I haven't had a flat tire in over 30 years...I must be blessed or something. It's a matter of luck I think.

Sumitomos on a previous car once blew out, I'll never get those again. BFGs got sliced at night once. Random flats while driving happen every so often to us.

It looks like several contractors did roof work on the houses in your area! Those nails for shingles are nasty. Light, and really tough.

Well there is a lot of construction going on around my city. But my fiancee's SUV doesn't get any of these and she visits construction sites all of the time with her job.

My tires are Goodyear F-1's and they have a decent amount of tread on them, the previous tires were called Fulda, and I had the same issue with those as well.

My car is garaged all night so I'm hoping vandalism is out!

Yes, there is something you can do.

Try to drive in the tire tracks of everyday traffic. If a nail or something is in the road, the guy in front of you probably already picked it up. You're still vulnerable to the guy who drives off line and kicks a screw or nail into your path, but that is much less likely.

Definitely stay off the shoulders of roads. Did you ever walk along side a road? It's unbelievable how much junk is laying out there. So don't try to apex a corner too tight were you drop wheels off onto the shoulder or get close.

Other than that, you have a dark cloud over your head.

I got several flat tires after the run of hurricanes we had in Pensacola over the past few years. I just bought a new set with free flat repair. Having a bunch of plugs in your tires suck, but at least it was free to repair them. Other than that I just tried to avoid the roads and areas less traveled.

Buy better tires If your tired of fixing flats. My dad runs Eagle F1s on his car and nothing can tear through them.

Her SUV also has more ply's on the tires. They're thicker and withstand more abuse.
