Finally painted my car!!! LOTS OF PICS!!!
hey everyone!
This is my car:
The paint is terrible. It has chips, scratches, and fading areas all over the entire car, especially the front end. Not to mention, I removed the black bumper pads from the front and rear bumpers, unfortunately revealing some nasty holes as you can see.
On some days, like if I wax it, it can look alright. The next picture for example makes the paint look pretty good, but alas, the holes are still there, along with the holes in the rear bumper as well, and.. the paint is never really 'good' no matter how much I try to make it look great.
SO.
I decided it was finally time to paint it.
Between work and school and the girlfriend, I managed to sand down the entire car in my driveway.
Most of the car had its original, 22 year old paint, but the front passenger fender, and rear drivers quarter panel had been repainted, due to an accident before I got the car.
You can tell from the pics above, because Porsche original paint was single stage, with no clear coat, and the respray was done with 2-stage paint, base coat and clear coat. Therefore when I sanded the panels down, the original panels stayed red while the repainted panels turned hazy white from the clearcoat.
Anyway.
I used to work at a paint & body shop called J-BAR. They do excellent work there. I spoke with my old manager, and he agreed to let me paint my car at the shop in the paint booth!
Since I sanded down quite hard through the paint in some areas, where bondo was piled up, we decided to prime over those areas so that the new paint would stick to it:
So what did I do about the holes in the bumpers? Shave them of course!
Spent a good bit of time back at the house filling the holes and smoothing everything out.
The picture below is after primering the front and rear bumpers, and the front nose panel.
the next phase is wetsanding the primer, then drying and masking everything off...
ducktail!!!
Alright, so now its ready for paint!!!!!! Cant wait!
started out by mixing a bunch of leftover reds the shop had, to cover up the red and the primer...
and the moment Ive been waiting for!!!
the color: Sunset Pearl from an 08 Mitsubishi Eclipse (lol)
so that turned out pretty good!
now for some clear!
cant forget all the small parts...
and after 2 coats of clear its done!
Spent all of friday night assembling the car getting it ready for the Rolex on Saturday morning.... finished up at about 3 am, woke up at 7am and headed out!
Here's the car fully assembled, at the Rolex 24 at Daytona yesterday and today...
Water beading up on the roof...
Hope you guys enjoyed the pictures as the car evovled! The car will actually be getting a replica euro bumper and a 924GT hood scoop in the next few weeks, so those will be painted seperate, with pics to follow.

Drifting
wow that looks beautiful
btw, my red early 944 has that same paint problem
it was repainted in some parts and in others it still has original paint, which is now sunfaded
I'll be looking for someone to paint it sometime before summer
btw, love your wheels, which are (sizes too)
great job!

Very nice!
A really cool red. Nice that you had access to a booth. I painted mine in a home made booth. Although I was very happy with the final result, I know if I do another project I will seriously consider trying to rent booth time.
