First suspension mod?

First suspension mod?
Every journey begins with a single step. And so hopefully soon begins my journey to Spec 944. Having run my first Auto X recently and talking to some experience PCA guys, I can see where I should start. I've been advised that a good set of Anti Sway bars makes a night and day difference and is a fairly basic thing to install. Good idea, bad idea?

Good advice. Turbo sway bars are cheap and direct bolt on. Alternatively you can go with M030 968 bars. Either are a great choice. My personal favorite combo on a n/a was a 26.8mm bar from a stock 968 or 951S and the M030 968 19mm adjustable rear.
Check to see if your car even has a rear sway bar, not all n/a's came with them and if your car is one of thosel, you will need a couple pieces of hardware to mount it.

i did very well w/ an n/a 944 and a 924s in autox w/ just 200lb front springs, good brake pads and a set of turbo sways. Of course make sure all your maintenance is up to spec.

Best mod. is sway bars, after a really good set of tires.
love my 968 M030 bars, helps the car to rotate.
my old car was an 85 RX-7 with an 87 Turbo 13B. (for sale now) Early RX-7's are really tail happy, but lots of fun to drive, even with the stock 100 or so HP, but with 951 power and 2100# it gets really gets fun.

My RX7 buddy would so hate to talk to you. He loves nothing but FC's. I'm going to be helping him do some turbo work (T1 motor in an 89).

I suggest 968 M030 sways as even when you start racing you can still use them.
Your cheapest mod would be turbo Sways, but most don't race on them so you may need to unload them in the future.
The next thing are shocks. Koni yellows are the standard for 944 spec and work great on street cars too. They are pricey for street shocks, but dirt cheap compared to race shocks. The other way to increase the stiffness is to remove weight. A lighter car will feel like it has stiffer springs.
