No one will cut my 944 key blank!
Has anyone ever had any success in getting an OEM 944 key blank cut? I have been to countless places and as soon as they realize the key is made of steel they hand it back to me and say they can't do it. There has to be places that still cut steel keys.

A mobile locksmith did mine for free (though he was also getting into my wifes odyssey... that wasn't free). He laughed when i told him about trying to get it done at the places that have the automated machines, he had the old school style grinder.

try telling them its a volkswagon key. alot of times they just assume that because its a porsche key that it has to be special made. im pretty sure volkswagon and porsche had the same key style.

"We can't cut this."
"Why not?"
"We just can't"
"Whatever dude"
Eventually I took it to a hardware store in town and some girl did it for $2 and was excited about cutting a Porsche key, lol.

I replace my early 83 key with a late key and the machine at orchard worked fine. When I tried my late style 951 key they said it just wouldn't work. Took it to Ace and they did it manually which was risky but free.

I had to go to an actual locksmith shop.
Most places said they wouldnt do it because it ran a high risk of damaging their cutting wheels. One guy said hed do it for a $300 deposit.... I laughed at him.

Yeah I had a guy mess up one of my blanks. Those auto-cutters don't have the bits to cut the steel; they end up just pushing it out of the chock. I had mobile locksmith guy come cut mine by hand with hand files- it was pretty impressive. It wasn't cheap though.

local ole timer cut my key no problem. He uses his older machine and old wheels/bits to cut the steel key. says if you go slow, makes no difference. Can you find one of those guys?

I have been to several key cutting shops that specialize in car keys, ace hardwares with old style cutters, and new places like lowes etc. All have said that the steel will destroy their cutters and that they can't do it. One guy said he could cut it but it would cost $70 so he could buy a new cutter afterwards. The Porsche dealer near me said they don't cut keys and had no advice on where to go.

I work at ace, we have about 3 machines sitting upstairs that the jaws are busted on and whatnot, still have cutters. If you were closer i'de do it for you, my boss would have to buy the new cutter (if it ruined it which i dont really believe, if it cant cut it the thing will stop) what do i care
