Question surfboard rack/sunroof

I just purchased an extra sunroof and plan to permanently mount (sometype-of-rack) to it. Has anyone done this before ? All design ideas would be appreciated. This sunroof will only be used when I am carrying my board. It's 7'2" and weighs 5lbs.
TIA

I think it will rip itself off the car when you start moving at any speed at all.
The force of the wind will be a problem. be careful.

I'm going to agree. Its not that the board weights too much, but i think the force of the wind might try and take your roof out. If you can make it work could be interesting.

I agree with Chris. A surfboard is going to catch the wind pretty good. And the sunroof is super secure, I think it will go flying.

I probably will rig an adjustable inside tether, maybe with a clip attached to the seat rail. Maybe I will be the first to have an ejection seat. haha

Given that the hardware holding the sunroof closed is flimsy and the sunroof itself is basically made out of plastic, I'm going to have to join the consensus on this one...

Rip it - just get a smaller board...6"2" quad fits nicely

I transport my windsurfing board on a generic rack that mounts to the rain gutters.
Although your solution might not work as pointed above, kudos to the creative idea!

Although I agree with everyone else that the hardware holding the sunroof is quite flimsy and it would probably fly away, I think you are on to something here. I think the solution is to do a little engineering and rig up some new hinges and maybe a latch to hold the sunroof down. I like the idea of a spare sunroof that could be taken on and off for transporting bikes, boats, or boards.

just start playing around with it and hopefully you'll come up with something easy and attractive.

what if you mounted the board so that it was not flat side down/up, but turn the board 90degrees from the way you would usually stand on it, so that the largest surface area is perpendicular to roof. Would be somewhat fin-like, wont catch much air...much more aerodynamic...just an idea, hopefully what I wrote makes sense...

My sunroof went flying across the street when I was in an accident.
