Looking a "home"mechanic that can replace my waterpump/timing belt. I know there a few good places to take it to but I've found myself in a real financial crunch and swing.
Ultimately I need to have the 944S repaired in order to sell it as I don't have much interest in someone buying as non -running. I have removed the radiator/fan and starter and dialed in top dead center....it's been like that for several months because divorce and custody issues.
I can buy the parts needed so all I need is your labor rate. I need someone who knows how and not thinks he can do it.

I would be willing to do it but I'm and hour away and there are several people in the Charlotte area that would also probably be willing to do it.

Did you ever call PAS like I recomended? JP said he would do it on a weekend, and he lives down that way. I am further away which means that if I need a tool it's an hour round trip basicly. Not that I don't know what it takes to do the job, but you just never know. If you dont find anyone to do it I would still be availible if you needed.

If all else fails, I am in Raleigh but have been meaning to head over there for a weekend, but as was stated above it would suck to have to drive 2.5 hours if i forgot a tool...

I've got a pin wrench for removing the balance belt gears and 27mm thin wrench for adjusting the offset rollers. I got a large toolbox full of tools you can use. You will need a flywheel lock and a tensioner tool.

no rollers, front seals, etc. ?

i've sold all my TB tools - do you have all the wrenches? and what are you using for tensioning the belt?

i would be willing to help as part of a get together with the other charlotte guys. I know exactly what to do and have done it quite successfully on my own - but wouldn't take on all the responsibility alone -
breaking off a waterpump bolt alone could ruin the day's plan. I happy to help if you can get a few guys to pitch in.

A get together is great idea...I don't have a tensioner tool BTW...I was gonna do a loaner on that. I know the oil seal and rollers are ideal opportunity and I'll catch slack but I emptied my saving account for custody of my 6 year old twins...I'm on a tight budget and the 944S is too nice of a car to let it sit like this.
Let me know what I can do.
(I can create a waiver releasing anyone from any type of liability because I heard those wp bolts can shear easy)

I only have 10k miles on my wp/belts, but I might not mind coming to hang out, lend a hand, and learn a few things. I've got some decent tools around, but nothing like what Mark's got.

I have access to the Porsche tool for our belts. Lets pick a weekend and get it done.

check the forecast and pick a saturday.

you need to aquire all the parts for what you plan to do and have the tools lined up.
missing parts or tools could foul our day. do you have your own hand tools? sockets, wrenches, breaker bars, etc.

i have found it a two day process for the home mechanic. break it all down and clean on a friday and put back together on a saturday. I haven't done it in one marathon day - not sure it is the best idea.

if you havent done it before you need to read through every part of every procedure in clark's garage relative to the work you expect to complete and order the parts identified in those procedures. maybe even some of the bolts, etc. that have to be removed incase something breaks. dont forget the "while your in there" items. I guess it will be easier if you are just doing the pump and belts - but hard to do just those items when you have it all open.

It's a relative straight forward deal - but you have to have your **** together. otherwise, there may be more beer drinking than actual work and the car will still be on stands when we leave. think it through.

I think a couple of us Charlotte guys started discussing a timing belt party for sometime in the near future. I know personally my car needs a lot of preventive maintenance since I'm using it everyday for longer distances now.

I need belts, water pump, replace a/c compressor (i think), and a radiator.

So let me know. I have a two car garage and driveway space for another four cars but it might be a little tight with that many.
