Time to sell??
I'm kind of tired of my n/a. Sure, it handles and looks great, and I never cease to be amused at how rich people think I am. But, I kind of want a less demanding car. A good all around performer with newer styling and some exclusivity. I figure that once the summer is over (ie, 944s are less fun in the winter/autumn) I'm gonna go and get a good mid 90s bimmer 325is. Sound good? I bet a nice set of rims and some sport springs/shocks would add a little fun. Feedback? Should I just get a 318? I figured I didnt want to settle for a base model this time. Are 320s any good? Are they all 4 door? 328s are out of the question.

hey i dont think lemon actually posted this to ask our opinions on what kind of car to get instead of the 944, i think what he really wants us to do is convince him to keep it.
well, lemon, i'll be the first to say it:
don't sell the 944! isn't the whole reasoning behind getting/having one associated with people not really knowing what it is, or how exclusive/expensive it is, and that you do know what it is, and that its really awesome, etc.. etc.. dont sell mr p-car lemon yellow.
btw what do you mean exactly when you say "I never cease to be amused at how rich people think I am" ..hmm.. oh well. there ya go.

I'm with you on the whole selling thing Lemon. I was actually thinking of doing the exact same thing. Selling the S2 for a nice 95' 325is at one point. Whatever you do decide, make sure it's what you really want. Let us know what you decide!

Thanks guys but I really think its time to sell. Like I said, I need a newer, more conventional car, albeit with some sporting character and exclusivity. My dad already has a german A4 1.8t. Really nice cars (extremely nice), but I think that a mid 90s 325is is a more affordable and sportier.

Well I have a BMW 318i and it is a great little car to throw around, but it is not a 944. Slow is the first word that comes to mind, slow but fun. I bought it for 3K with 75K original one-owner miles on it. And it is a good looking car (in my opinion) to boot. Parts are mid-range (think VW) price wise so its not all that bad. It gets me to work without complaining, its very easy to work on, and I could care less about it. I wouldn't talk anyone out of buying a BMW, but a bimmer will (hopefully) always be my second car. With all that said I'm getting out of my 944S soon. There is too much cosmetically that I want to be done. I've decided that the year+ I've had with the car has tought me alot and its time to move on. I've have a good chance at getting a 88 930 that will put me in debt for a while but what the hell, I'm young. That about sums its up.

The 325 from 1993-1995 is a great sporty car. Extremely low maintenance and relatively cheap to mod and maintain. Most BMW clubracers will run a 325 4dr body (very stiff) with fully tweaked suspension and moderate engine mods. The E36 is an extremely well handling car at the track - there probably is nothing easier to track.
I track my 97 M3, have put on H&R coilovers($1200), Eibach sways($300), Hawk HPS pads($120), and can run with most anything at the track, including C5 vettes and 996's.
If you go that route, be sure to do the following - water pump, lower timing chain tensioner, rear shock mounts, rear control arm bushings, tranny bushings. Think of those as preventative maintenance must dos- all can be DIY relatively easy and the parts are very inexpensive.
Having said all that, I would keep the 944 as a dedicated track car.

I know!! What the hell is happening here? I bring mine back from the ashes and everyone runs for the hills and sells the Enron stock.
Serious.. if you are in a situation that you need a new car (something bigger, cheaper, whatever), then you need to do what you gotta do. You can always get another when you are ready to come back home.
Although the 2nd car, if you can afford it, is very nice to have.

hehe, its bimmer time (I still love my 944). Wait till I graduate from school, it'll be boxster time (I know, boxsters are kiddy 911s, but why buy a 20 yr old 911 when I can have a better newer car for the same price?)

Sit down and really contemplate what you want from a car. Beamers are nice but the 3's are a dime a dozen, also I know too many beamer owners who don't know what the 325 designation stands for. If you HAVE to go another route atleast go audi. A4T's can make tremendous power and have virtually unlimited potential. Plus MUCH more exclusive and a clean design. Still, you seem to be shying away from audi which is fine. Personally I like the 92 and up 3 series more than the new ones...they look more masculine something about the str8 lines. Anyways, I have an odd feeling you might regret the trade. The worst thing would be you sell your porsche and get into a 3 series and a year later you're at a stop light staring at a 944 remembering all the memories and how much of a great car the Porsches actually are....regret my brother is the worst...keep it water cooled.

NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooo!
Keep your car. If you sell it you will regret ever doing so.
