Post Turbo not fucntioning?

I recently bought my first stocked 951(1986) @ 8500 USD. Having owned a fully-mod WRX back in Singapore, i am desperate for power with my 951 now; but i am now an idiot with Porsche cars.

Can anyone help me with the following problems i encounter:

1. I find the car under-power and i suspect the turbo isnt working after all. Even though the stock boost gauge reads 1Bar of boost, I dont feel ****. What could of gone wrong? ----- CPU? entire Turbo system? engine wear????

2.Steer - the steering is not precise, by the way; is this model equipped with POWER STeering???

3. Anyone knew any Porsche Specialist in Taiwan?

Welcome aboard !!!

"1. I find the car under-power and i suspect the turbo isnt working after all. Even though the stock boost gauge reads 1Bar of boost, I dont feel ****.

The gauge on the dash reads absolute atmospheric-pressure. So 1-bar is zero boost, just 1:1 volumetric efficiency. Stock boost should be reading 1.8-bar on the gauge.

Couple of possibilities:

- boost-gauge is bad or stuck: not likely because you actually don't feel any kick from the boost, so the 1-bar reading is probably accurate.

- leaking wastegate: this would dump all your exhaust pressure out the tailpipe and nothing's left to drive the turbo. Go for a gentle drive and feel the short section of pipe between the wastegate and the dump to the exhaust. If it's warm, then your wastegate is leaking.

- bad turbo: remove your intake and spin the turbo by hand. It should be smooth turning with no binding anywhere throughout the entire 360-degree rotation. Axial & lateral play shouldn't exceed 0.25mm.

"2.Steer - the steering is not precise, by the way; is this model equipped with POWER STeering???"

Yes, it comes with power-steering. Check your tire-pressures and get a 4-wheel alignment. Add 1-degree to the stock caster-specifications to about 3.25-3.50 caster for more self-centering action.

Wanna fly me out? I need to visit some herbal-medicine specialists for my asthma!

A couple other things it could be - bad recirculating valve (blow-off valve). The membrane could be ripped, and the turbo wouldn't spool up.

Also, check for loose intercooler pipes/hoses.
