After deciding that I don't really like the look of all those colored vacuum lines, I decided I wanted just plain black.

Then it came time to changing my BOV. The vacuum line on it was a rubber one, and I noticed on other pics I have seen that people had a rubber elbow, and hard plastic vacuum lines. Do they normally come with hard lines? I went out to a local parts place and picked up 3 ft of hard line plus a rubber 90 degree elbow, and it looks really nice.

Is there any reason why we shouldn't have this type of hose all over the engine bay instead of rubber vacuum line?

Almost all of the stock lines are hard plastic with rubber elbows and tees for connections. Over time, the hard ones crack and make it hard to find the leak. Since you had rubber lines, I bed the manifold was off the car before you got it.

Any idea why? Your PO tell you about that?

Yep - blown head gasket. He told me about it about 2 weeks after I bought the car. Oil residue in the coolant made me ask questions. I guess I should have asked them when he mentioned the widefire head gasket and o-ringed head. Of course I knew a hell of a lot less about 944's four months ago than I do now.
