Unhappy Car won't start

I just moved to Northern Virginia this past fall. Overall, my 1987 Porsche 924S has run great. It has been very cold the past few weeks though and it even snowed this week. I went to start the car this morning and it would not start. I turned the key and nothing happened. DEAD SILENCE. Well, I read a few posts on here that talked about taking a hammer to the starter and whacking it a few times. I decided to give it a shot since I knew the battery and wires were in great shape. Wouldn't you know that after a few whacks the engine started to crank a little. Before long it sputtering to life. It took me about 1/2 an hour but it finally started. I don't reccomend that sit there and whack it too much. But I clerarly had gotten road salt and ice up in the starter. I guess I just need to have it cleaned or something. Does anyone know how to do that? <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

A car wash that has a undercarriage spray is one way. It is hard to get under the car with a hand wash.
