Correct size wheels?
I'm new at the 944 Porsche game, so this may be a bad question. I have recently purchased an '88 951 Turbo S w/ 34K miles. It's obviously in good shape but I am not excited about the 17" Twists on the car (they sit inside the wheel wells too deeply). I see most of the wheel shops selling wheels that are 19". This just seems too big for a car that started life with a 16" wheel. I was thinking about keeping the 17" Twists for a day or two at the track. I'd like a new set of "dress wheels" without sucking the power out of the car with too much unsprung wheel weight or with a tire that is so tall that it kills acceleration. Is an 18" too big? and what tires would you put on that? Or do I need to stick with a 17" and what size tires go with that. It is an 'S' model so the wheel well edges are already "rolled" and I would like to fill as close to the edge as possible without rubbing. Thanks in advance for your help.

Kinda odd a Late Car would have Wheels too far in with factory Wheels. You can always push them out with Spacers. 17" Twist is kinda odd, hopefully you mean Boxster Twist. Check and see what Size they are, and that the Previous Owner didn't have like 7" wide all around. Or your Front and Rear Tires switched like someone else found recently on their own car.
Tire Rack lists 17" Size as 205/50-17 Front, and 255/40-17 Rear. This is the same as a 986/996.
These cars actually started with 15's, however the Turbo's had 16's. I think these cars look quite nice with 17 or 18" Wheels. 19 is a bit much.

I'm not shure right now, but isn't it a 225 in front together with 255 rear?
Cup Design:

8,0x17 ET52
9,0x17 ET55

In 18' there is a very nice rim made by SportTechnic.
SportTechnic Ultra-Lightweight.
It's a monoblock rim.
8,5x18 => 7,4kg
11 x18 => 7,9kg
For S2 and Turbo in 8,5x18 and 10x18.
Last known price is 3600,-€

And a pic of my car with 8,5x19 and 10x19 and 225 and 245 tires.

Wheels/tires
Porshhhh951... that is a great look you have with the 18". Do you notice a loss of power or acceleration running a wheel that large? I think I was not very clear on the initial post. With my current wheels the tires look ok but they are just not to the edge of the wheel well where I would like to see them (spacers may be the answer). Overall it looks good, but doesn't have an "edge" to it like yours does with the 18's. I want to get a good custom wheel... I just want to make sure I'm not putting on a wheel/tire that is seriously going to affect acceleration or handling in a negative way.

944S2 Wow, I can't find a program to open up this address. Do you have to be German to access this?

I really don't notice the difference in performance honestly because I had just installed a new motor and turbo kit at the same time. In my opinion I think the performance loss is negligible and what small difference there is due to extra weight over say a 16' wheel you can make up for with grip because of the tire selection that go's along with running a 18' wheel. I have 295's in the rear and my car is about as far from stock as you can get without getting crazy and I have no problems nearly dead hooking in ever gear but, first.
I say go 18's because of the tires you put on and honestly these cars just look suburb with a 18' wheel. Lots of choices out there as far as fitment and taste as well.
PS. I love that shot Joe!!!! What a killer shot of your 944 turbo. I'm so jealous.

No, Idon't think so.
Try this one to have a look at the Sport Technic Lightweight Monobloc!
For the 18' you have to ask I think.

Here you can find all the Porsche rims which would fit your car and a lot of other brands too.

And yes, they (Dezent RS) have a negative impact on performance and fuel consumption!

I packed this tool and another one - both very helpful if you want to change rims, tires ... - as one zip-file.
