You COULD build a NEW one from scratch if you have a long enough time line and deep enough pockets... Just speaking based on my experiences... Now I'm wondering.. has anyone ever tried this?

another really expensive repair would be a bad torque tube (bad bearings).
something I recommend replacing on any 944 that hasn't had it done are the fuel lines. more specficially the 90 degree fuel line on the fuel rail, those are usually pretty badly cracked after 20 years.
oh and if you haven't checked yet, check for leaky powersteering rack, easy to replace but not really cheap.
also check for a bad oil pan gasket (bulging out / leaking) also sort of a pain to replace.
no 944 will be 100% perfect though but you don't want to buy one and spend the next year fixing up all the problems instead of driving.

is this the fuel line you're referring to:

I'll have picks up in a bit.
comment: bit = any duration of time!

so I did this to get more info. holy ****. now I'm actually a bit scared to even drive the car until I inspect the lines, fuel rail, injectors and get thermal wrap for almost anything carrying fuel.
One thing I didn't find is if this is isolated to FI cars, or at least less likely in NA cars.

The fuel rail stuff seems to happen when people are running without balance shafts or running with them incorrectly lined up (because of the extra vibration, I would assume).
