Something must have been wrong to get that much jump in power. 134 hp and 136 are solid numbers for a 944 spec motor with a stock chip. Even so what does the curve look like and how did the A/F ratio numbers change?

The reason those sellers make so much on eBay is because people want to see a difference on their car, so mentally, they prepare themselves for some sort of "improvement". Here's the thing. My friend bought chips and resistors from about 5 or 6 "reputable" eBay sellers, over the course of a year and a half. He was on some sort of endeavor for power, without the discipline to save his money. He had a Scion tC and was convinced that he found the solution to a cheap upgrade. At that time I was just driving my Saturn (the thing is about on par with a later NA 944, or NB Miata, Auto-X proven) and I kid you not, every time he put something new on his car he wanted to line ours up. So we'd go somwhere to see if there was in fact a change.

The only difference each time was his wallet kept getting lighter. But this wasn't enough of a weight reduction to make a competitive difference. Between all the 20 and 30 dollar chips he bought, he could have gotten a cheap SAFC2 to simply dial in optimal AFR's or something. The "chips" did NOTHING.

On a 944, you don't want to go buying something from someone who obviously doesn't know anything about the car in the first place. As V2Rocket_aka944 said, the powerband is only so wide so some sort of "rev limit increase" isn't going to do anything but allow you to make less power in higher RPM's, than if you short shifted at low RPM's. Aaaaand the car isn't going to hit any governer stock, so removing that isn't going to be productive. I'm pretty sure the only way to get an NA 944 to hit any sort of limiter is to find a conveniently placed cliff or long hill and a tail-wind.

If you want, I would say go ahead and get the chips, but do that knowing that there are vendors and tuners who have been doing this for years. And the only real option that anyone has found is to get the chips that are proven out there. No affordable 944 NA chip has made more than a 10ish hp difference. I would not expect a 30 dollar item to do any better. One simply couldn't do the research and development for a power increase like that for so little.
