Talking Here is your chance to be smart! Diagnose this Problem

Ok,
Guys Here is Challenge for the day.

In my last race my race car would intermitantly lose power. Felt like the throttle cable was not connected.

First Time was very brief (second), Next Time happend after another 10 seconds and happened for 2-3 seoconds. Then came back 5 seconds later for a 4 seconds. Then it was fine for another 15 mintues of running. No problems. Then it happend twice more on my cool down lap.

Engine never stopped running, but nothing seems to happen when I pressed the accelerator pedal. I would not even rev the engine in neutral, but would idle. The car never stopped moving however.
I had plenty of gas in the car and no vacuum leaks.

Since I have change the fuel filter and fuel pump. I did an autocross and the car was fine.

I have in my possession a new DME/Fuel pump relay and a Throttle position sensor. I have not installed these yet.

I would like know if there are any ideas as to what may have failed to cause my problem. Testing is difficult for me since the car is not street legal.

Thanks

Distrubitor cap, wires, or plugs? Those are the first things that come to mind.

It has 87 924S Injection and electronics.

Could be the TPS that you already mentioned, it might be intermittently failing and confusing the DME

glogged fuel injectors maybe? i dunno. i have the same exact problem as you. it freakin sucks. one time it happend for like 20 seconds, and when it finaly came back i herd a huge backfire so i dont think its fuel injectors. try replacing all your ignition stuff. thats my guess.

I put my money (SEK that is) on the TPS or bad connection to the air flow meter.

AFM maybe? Check for worn out resistor traces. If so, bend the wiper arm over to a new un-worn section? What phase was the moon in when this was occuring?

1) Heat soak on the TPS
2) Heat soak on the AFM
3) DME relay on the way out
4) FPR on the way out
5) Fuel pump on the way out
6) Heat soak on the driver (underarm deodorant failure.)

It could be your wires. I have seen wires with worn jackets....and although you can't see bare wire, it is thin enough so that it archs and grounds out to all of the surrounding metal. Change your wires and this should resolve the problem.

I had a similar problem with my 83 and sometimes would leave me stranded. It also would go to full rich for no reason. The car was still under warranty, so Porsche replaced the computer and I never had the problem again.
