Disabling the 944 Central Locking System
Is there any way to disable the central locking system? I was working in the garage on my 1988 944S the other day and had it running. I closed the driver's door to check something under the hood and the doors locked. Luckily the window was down. Is this normal? I would rather have it that it only locks and unlocks when I press the button.
Thanks in advance for any information.

well i gave my car power locks with some aftermarket actuators and wired a 944 sunroof switch (up/down = unlock/lock) just off a fused line from the battery.
i imagine you could disconnect the lock relay thingy and just run power to the actuators and switch

A few weeks ago my locks would intermittently lock/unlock. I pulled the fuse. No intermittent, but no power locks either. I plan to check out the problem sometime. Anybody else have a similar problem and know the culprit?

does the central locking system deal with the key hole next to the driver door. My car has that hole but no power locks and my ignition key does not work in that key hole

I hope that there is a way to re-program the system to turn off the auto-lock feature, without having to pull fuses and rewire things, but it may not be possible. On newer vehicles it seems that you can sometimes do that.
I don't think that what my car is doing is an intermittent problem. It's just doing what it was set up to do. No different than when I get in, close the door and start it. A few seconds later the doors lock.
If someday I get in, start the car, set the parking brake, hit the unlock button and get out to get something I forgot in the house, I don't want to hear my doors lock when I close the door with the car running. I would be a little upset to say the least, but I have a spare key at home. What happens if I'm not home? I'd be screwed.
Do all 944s do this? Maybe something is wrong with mine?

The stock power lock does not do that?? I suspect you have an aftermarket. Is it possible?

My car does have a Viper keyfob. The previous owner had it installed. They may have disconnected the stock setup and run everything thru their controller. That is most likely my problem. I'll have to contact Viper to see if they know what is going on.
Thanks.
Thanks.

my wife's crv has it but i've never heard of the 944 factory door locks, locking by themselves.
i don't like auto-lock on doors, if you're on fire and the door is locked, you may not get out.

I'm pretty sure it's the Viper keyless entry that is doing all this. Now I have to figure out how to turn this feature off. Hopefully, I don't have to go and pay a Viper dealer to do it.
