Default Paint Chip Touch-Up / Dr. Colorchip (photos)

Ok...I ordered a paint chip repair kit from Dr.Colorchip and thought I'd document the results.

The Kit...(matched paint, paint remover, brush, and the all important rubber glove.)

Started by clay barring the sections I was going to touch up.

Applied paint with cloth...

Was a bit unnerving to "finger paint " my car....let dry for an hour and a half. I then removed the excess with a microfiber towel and the solution. The paint binds with the exposed metal but wipes off the already painted surface.

Pretty damn amazing...cost $50.00 and took about four hours.

Cheers,

This is the second time I have done it...the first time I made the mistake of not using a clay bar prior to painting. It kept coming off with the solution. I was also uneasy about letting the paint dry too long and not being able to remove it. This time was much more effective....says to wait 3 days before waxing. I didnt wait long enough last time...we'll see.

I've done this on my sandblasted header panel. Not quite as good as yours, but I think you're onto something with the towel. Lots easier than dab...dab...dab...dab...

There used to be a service called Chip's Away that would come to you and do this. My local guy did a great job on that.

Nice work!
Lots of satisfaction doing it yourself.
I need to get some of that for my sinister wagon project.

http://www.drcolorchip.com/

It works best on the small chips...they pretty much vanish. The bigger ones are noticeable from about a foot and a half or in direct sunlight. At night/ dusk or two feet back, it looks like a new car. Scratches..not so much. If it's down to the metal, it will cover the exposed metal but will still be visible.

What I learned:

1. Use a wax stripper/ clay bar prior to painting. very important.

2. Use the remover/solution very sparingly, it goes fast. Might be best to order the kit with the 4 oz. bottle.

3. Let the paint dry for at least an hour.

4. Use a microfiber towel to remove to paint..makes it MUCH easier.

Default paint

Ordered the large kit for my 1977 911.

It still has the original paint and from your photos just the thing to make the
30+ year old paint chips look better than dob method.

my daughter & I are in the middle of this. I only let my dry 2-3 minutes. It works very well. I'm going to order another kit for my 993.

My car is going into the body shop to have a dent on the front right fender fixed and resprayed. They said that they would give me a bottle of the paint for touching up the rock chips. Anyone see a reason why I couldn’t just use this paint and use the Dr. Colorchip paint removal solution to remove the excess? I would really prefer to use the paint from the shop since it will be matched.

EDIT: The Dr. Colorchip website states that the paint provided by Dr. Colorchip is the only paint that will work with the "blending solution"

yea - the paint is definitely something special. it's pretty neat the way it comes off the painted area and stays in the chip. it works better on smaller chips than big ones, but i was very pleased with how well it worked.
