Default 1987 Porsche 944S value

I just recently bought a 1991 Porsche 944S2 and might consider selling my 1987 Guards Red 944S with only 136K miles. This car has the factory LSD option, tan leather interior with a slight wear on the driver's bolster, cruise control. AC needs to be recharged. Clutch and timing belt replaced about 3-4K miles ago. Clean title and some of the recent service records. What do you guys think this car should be able to sell for. The Kelly Blue Book doesn't have a value for this car. Is there a website that I can tell me the value of this car? Thanks in advance.

*Note, price is IQD (Iraqi Dinars)

I live in Alameda which is about 20 minutes from Joseph's house. I was thinking that the car is worth around the $5-$6K range because of its condition but there are a few things wrong like:

AC is not cold and needs recharging.
Power door lock switch doesn't unlock both doors.
Sunroof might not be working as the previous owner said it could be broken but I haven't tried opening it.
The car has been repainted by previous owner but overall it is a good job.
Car was involved in small accident as someone hit it from behind and it was repaired properly and does have a clean title.

Do these things have a big impact on the pricing? I was also considering removing the LSD and swapping it out with an open diff to sell the car for less. What are your thoughts? Thanks for your input as this will really help me decide on what I want to do with this car.

Was also thinking about keeping it for my daughter who will be turning 16 in June. Wouldn't it be awesome for a teenager to drive such a beautiful car?

Sorry but I am not interested in selling at this time, especially to someone that can not meet in person with USD currency. Thanks for your offer though.

i think your daughter would love the car. id say keep the lsd in it though if she will drive it for a little extra safety when the sky opens up and water covers the road. my 944 is my first car but it rains for about 20 minutes out of the year down here so open diff is fine for me.

ac is pretty easy to recharge if the system isnt leaking, but even that usually is just o-rings which are very easy to replace.

The reason why I even thought about switching the LSD is because my 1991 944S2 has an open diff and I really would like the LSD for the S2 because it will be a street/track car. I am pretty sure it is a direct replacement between the 1987 944S and the 1991 944S2.

Can anyone tell me or confirm if the two trannys are interchangable between both cars?

I purchased mine a year ago for 7k in nj, it needed tensioner pads, timing belt, water pump etc. Everything worked (ie sunroof, a/c, etc). It had 968 wheels on it tho, not phonies...

Hope this helps

From what I can gather, the tranny should be a direct replacement but the gearing is slightly different. The 1991 944S2 with open diff has a taller 5th gear while the 1987 944S with LSD has the short 5th gear.

Please correct me if I am mistaken. Thanks.

I used to have an LSD 'S' tranny -- it was very usable. It's basically short 5th gear, but the total gear ratio is all slightly different: http://www.924.org/techsection/PorscheTrans1.xls

BTW, Drewster was very recently considering another 944S in San Leandro: https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...e-a-favor.html. I think he's a serious buyer (despite being based out of Fort Bliss and currently stationed in Iraq). His offer of 5,768,000 IQD is exactly 5000 USD at today's exchange rate (which matches your asking price on craigslist.)

I'll actually be living in Virginia once I get back. I am very serious about find another 944. I'm well aware the extra cost of having to get the car shipped, but I'm willing to pay that price for a good car.

Oh yeah, the IQD thing was supposed to be a joke, but I guess it wasn't all that funny

I just sold my 87 S for $3k on eBay. I had it advertised for $5.5k, $4.5k, $3.7k, $3.5k and finally $3k. It was on the market for 8 weeks before it sold. Of course it had 280k miles on it but many extras in the suspension. Of course, your car is more desirable due to the LSD and less miles. I watched some S's on eBay before I put mine for sale and the lower mileage ones that seemed to be in good condition went for $4.5 to 5k. The link to my sale might still be working below.

The S2 tranny received stronger ring and pinion and maybe 1st and 2nd gears to handle the additional torrque.
