Default WTB - 944 S2, Turbo or 968 Coupe

Willing to try something new.

I have very little knowledge on the 944's, a little more on the 968, but pretty hands on with the 911's. Trying to learn more here.

I have been searching for a Coupe, prefer later year Turbo or S2 (maybe), or a 968. The later year Turbo S (88-89) seem hard to find as do 968's in coupe form. I am also willing to consider a top notch 89-91 S2.

I think I have a preference for the 968, better A/C, decent power, but I have always loved the Turbo when it is in close to stock form.

Any suggestions on what real key differences are, important items to consider would be welcome, and of course if you have one or know of one for sale, aim them at me.

My wish list is a very well cared for, close to stock, lower mileage (under 100k), not a concours winner (well maybe), I like a great specimen, I do plan on driving it which why very good a/c is important (in the south). I'm realistic and willing to pay fair market dollars for the right car.

Priority would be 89 Turbo, 94-95 968 Coupe and then a 89-91 S2.
Good records, up-to-date maintenance done
Manual Transmission
Good working a/c
Under 100k miles
excellent condition
paint color - red, white, blue, grey, black, polar silver are all okay.

I know it sounds like a "well sure", we all want that wish list, but I don't expect the car to be cheap either (that would be great, but I am realistic).

I'll keep looking around the site. Look forward to helpful comments.

Too many miles? You are going to get a lot of car for your $$$, no matter what you buy nowadays!

Beautiful car, love the colors and upgrades, if only it had say 80-90k miles I would be all over it at more money.

I think your price is fair and realistic.

I looked at a red/black 94 968 coupe 2 years ago, locally and it was around $16k, and it had under 70k miles, I should have bought it.....

Why eliminate early 968's? Early cars had some features you don't see on later ones, and certainly can be seen as being contented like S2's, which are on your list.

I won't eliminate early model 968's, I just go for the later years of a model as a rule of thumb, generally any issues fixed or improvements are made by then, value's are better for resale, etc.....968's being made for only a few years probably wouldn't make much difference.

I really like the 968, but not sure how it stacks up against the 944 turbo, and there are a lot of upgrades/ options available for the 944's that aren't available for 968"s (or so I thought). Oops. On that note, you have done a lot of homework and work upgrading your 968....I guess if you work at it you can find the right products as needed.

The 968 guys generally don't care about model year. Very early cars have their own fans, as they have a recessed front badge, different rear number shape-and Porsche took away things like engine compartment trim pieces as the model matured. A/C change for the better in later cars, and restyled seats and door panels show up later as well. With only 2500 coupes and 2500 cabs (roughly) brought in over the four years it's best to find the best one rather than the newest one.

I love my 968 because it is a car that you don't see unless you are at a get together or event. It is a great conversation piece. Is it fast, no. Not as fast as a stock 951s. About even to slightly better than a non "s" 951 without a headache. Stock in all cases of course! I think that the 968 is a much more solid car compared to the 944s. I have had three 951s for reference. I miss the shove of the turbo, but I would rather take the knife instead of a hammer in any regular "legal" driving.

Check out www.craigshelper.com regularly to see some that pop up. Good luck!

Not to rub it in, but you missed a great Polar Silver '93 968 with 64k on it for 11,500 in Canton. It was listed for more than 20k in PCA mart last year. It was sold within days of being posted on craigslist.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

The white one on ebay is sweet but not so sure I like the super low profile tires (I like the look not sure what it actual does to the ride??? I though 18 or 19 wheels were not so good for these cars) and blacked out sidemarker/ taillight lenses.....I wonder what those look like up close. I know, I sound picky, but I have had experience putting modded cars back to original, and it isn't always cheap or easy. I have to be very selective if I decide to travel to buy.

Color, mileage, condition, all look good though, That condition and original would be just right.

If you intend to modify it at all, the 951s have more potential (larger aftermarket base) for more power.

You're about 15 years too late to order one from the factory...
Changing the wheels is no big deal and you could probably pickup period wheels for less that you could sell these for.
The car is pretty close to you. If you were really serious you'd be all over this...

Serious for the right one. White with blue is a common combination but I prefer black, tan or grey interior's over blue. I 'm the buyer so I can be as picky as I want.

As far as serious for the right car, I guess I'll know it when I see it.

My first choice is basically stock, maybe the right wheels (ones I like). We all get pictures in our mind of what works for us. I really like stock, but agree some mods are fine, even wheels.

Mike951...sending a PM.
