Default Pics of the 944 finally finished. No 56k

Well it's been 2 years since the car saw the road. Originally bought for 500 with a busted tranny, I was going to flip it. Big mistake. This car was nothing but headaches and a money pit.

My father is a DIE HARD Porsche fan(and is responsible for me making the bad decision to buy it). While I was cursing and smashing things in disgust, he had a smile on his face and kept a good attitude. After realizing I was never going to get this car in running shape on my budget or motivation, we traded. I needed a running vehicle, and he wanted a toy. So we swapped. A 1994 GMC Sonoma for the Porsche. The truck has been in my family since new. Both of us walked away feeling like the other was crazy.

It was kind of like letting your puppy go to a good home. I handed the car over after the paint work. He put everything together. Oh and Maaco fked up the paint bad but my dad's making the best of it. Remember, the car is supposed to be a GT3RS clone.

Us in the midst of prepping the body.

At Maaco. They did a very ****ty job prepping and now some of the paint is peeling and fish eyeing(is that a verb?). But my dad doesn't care. As long as it has the badge.

After dad got his meat hooks into it.

This dash was made from scratch by my father. Aluminum door panels and all. Every bit of carpet and interior is gone. Painted satin black.

Plans are for a supercharger. Just installed an AC delete to make room. Camber plates are purchased but not installed. Awaiting for parts to make some coil overs first. Like I said, my dad really polished a turd. I despise this car with every bone in my body. Everytime I took a step forward, something broke. My father just keeps at it.

Finally, not that I can compare, the truck.

Cherry bomb, chipped, and dropped. Only snag was a bad starter so far. Love every bit of having a good running vehicle. My father and I went right threw most of the truck before I got it so I shouldn't have to worry for a bit(knocks on wood). No big plans here. Just keep it slow and stockish. Maybe a lower drop and some chalk board paint over the purple stripes

Despite the fact that you hate the car, you have to understand that your dad sees something in it that you do not. There's a reason he keeps the grin on his face and a reason he's gone so far. Definitely gotta have the car in it's element to have fun and enjoy it for what it is. They aren't insanely common, they handle like a dream and are an absolute kick to drive. They will give you a headache in maintenance, but you truly have to love the car and it's behavior, more than the maintenance.

I think my first moment was when i finally got mine back into "as intended" condition and went out in some twisties in our local back canyon roads. Mind you my previous daily had YEARS of work done, had been tuned up, and thousands in the suspension. After even all of that work, it didn't come close to the way my 944 was driving and felt and the feedback it gave. What a car Porsche designed indeed. Takes a certain individual to really appreciate them for what they are for.

Huge hats off to your dad, he took a car that looked like hell and got it back onto a great looking shape with some goodies and ready to be loved again. He definitely deserves a lot of respect for that.

Your dad is a wise man -- he just built himself a track toy with roll cage, gutted interior and A/C delete. "Helping you with a project" was just an excuse to get it past his wife!

I love the car for how it handled and it was almost an honor to drive it. Compared to the volvo's I really toy with. It isn't Porsche in general I hate. Infact, I'd get a 944 again any day of the week. But this car had A LOT of hidden issues when I bought it. But no there is no question, this car handles better than anything I have ever driven and not too many cars can do 140mph with a 150hp 4 banger.

My father has more patience for this and a larger budget. I just couldn't afford the time and money this car demanded. So he took it over.

I get to be involved with it, without the head aches now

I can totally relate. I've got a 944 that looked gorgeous on the outside and ended up being a headache mechanically. I could list off the fixed things but we don't need a post a page long just for no reason LOL. On the other hand i've got a 924 i've been restoring which was essentially left alone for 10 years out in the open. It's now brought back to life but has a long way to go. Lotta patience involved.

Glad you didn't just make it a parts car when most would.

Your dad did a great job! I have found in my many years of owning "toy" cars that the most important thing is being able to truly afford it, and the other is not to depend on it exclusively. Both of these factors allow for the patience necessary to complete a project of that scale.
