Default Power Steering Removal

Hi,

My power steering pump is making a "zzzzzzz" sound. I disconnnected it, and found that I preferred the steering feel more. It seemed closer to my 84 Carrera that I owned a few years ago. How can I safely delete the pump?

THANKS

James

you can remove th plumbing, fill the rack with grease, and go or...

you can buy a manual rack, tie rods, and intermediate shaft. there is a full setup for sale on here for $300.

i went with the manual rack.

i did just this. easy.

just drain the PS fluid, disconnect the (two?) lines that run into the pump and remove the nuts holding it on the lower balance shaft bracket. the pump will slide forward and down. after that you can remove the PS reservoir and large lines easily, and the coil cooler under the PS headlight has a handful of 10mm nuts holding it on. the various other lines can be capped off. it might be a good idea to open the rack up and pack it with grease as suggested but i have run without fluid or grease for about 3 years now without issues, every few months ill pour some fluid into it (except i removed my reservoir about 2 months ago so cant do that anymore).
