Default I have solved the great 1988 944 mystery!! look here

Not much is know about the 1988 Porsche 944 "celebration edition. I have research this vigorously, even writing every stinking person over at Porsche Germany. I did hear the the special edition owner was given aq special coin to commemorate this edition and that it could have been mounted 'SOMEWHERE" inside the car. So I search the world for this coin and finally found one in germany. To make a long story short, I gutted my interior over the past week and noticed two round indents inside the glove box door. When i received the coin (about 3inch) my eyes lite up. I ran down to my garage and low and behold I have solved the mystery. It was mounted inside the glove box. Now i just need to find out what the other circle is for. Maybe its the personalized plaque rumored.

Not sure I am following you.

All the gloveboxes have those two indentations.

I'd certainly be interested in seeing better pics of the coin. It certainly isn't the 1988 calendar coin, which is when Porsche was in their INDYCAR phase..

Great info, certainly a new one to me. What's on the tails side of the coin?

Anyone have a similar coin they want to sell? I've got a guy with a 88 "SE" on my Christmas list!

those are cupholders....your glovebox door isn't supposed to flop all the way down. It stops parallel to the floor so you can use the cupholders.

I don't see how they would hold a cup. There less than a quarter inch deep. Maybe they made the coin to fit the "already available" cup holder...lol It just weird how it fits so perfectly there. The coin completely flush when put in that indention. To answer your question the coin doesn't have anything on the other side. It was meant to be displayed front only.
