Default Anyone have wind tunnel pictures ?

Anyone have any pictures or videos of a 944 in a wind tunnel.

I am looking to add a wing and I am interested to see what the air flow looks like to tell how high I need to mount the wing.

Thanks

Ed

mount it as high as you are allowed to within your rulebook.

+1
CPR once posted estimates on how much wind tunnel time costs...it was more than most 944's (double, triple even) for less than like 30min.

From my studies, the air seems to separates from the glass about half way down the hatch - about 6" above the factory spoiler.

I agree with Rich - mount it as high as your rules will allow. If you have no rules, mount it as high as you can! Think I'm joking here, look how high a GT3 cup wing is... they're almost level with the roofline.

Hey, on the picture of the 924 above, is that exhaust gas around the taillights?

No - that's turbulence - disrupted air swirling around in the low pressure area behind the car. This is what causes a lot of drag (this low pressure area sucking the car backwards as it tries to drive forward.)

not that i really care for autox, but does the 944 duckbill on my 924s hurt or help this?

I don't really know the answer of that... But, my guess is there must be some benefit of both the 924s and 944 spoiler - otherwise Porsche wouldn't have put it on. However, I bet the effect is only minimal, and then only at speeds of 50 MPH or faster.

So, to answer your question, no advantage at an autocross.

The back of my 944 is always filthy after a track day....moreso than the front sometimes. I guess now I know why.
