Default Help! i have a 1984 944 and a 1990 944s2 and i want to do a swap

Okay this is the story, Im 17 years old and my best friends grandpa just gave me 5 porsches. and I traded a P.O.S datsun truck for a wrecked 1990 944 s2 to some idot. the cars that my friends grandpa gave me for FREE! are,
1977 924 porsche perfect body
1987 924s porsche some body damage perfect inside
1983 924 porsche some parts are missing
1984 944 porsche no body damage motor is missing some parts and inside is bad
1985 944 porsche runs new rebuilt motor and tranny rebuilt low miles runs great clean inside and motor is clean front end damage
then i traded this $150 1980 datsun pick up for a wrecked 1990 944 s2 porsche . motor runs and i drove it out in the pasture just body is tost.

Now i want to take the motor, tranny and the M030 suspension out of the 1990 s2 and put it in the 1984 944 porsche. Does anyone know how i can get step by step directions or tips on how to do it. I have a verry low budget but i have all these cars.
Also I will be willing to part out some parts if ppl are interested just let me know what you are interested in and how much your wanting to pay for the part. Or if some one has a 1985.5 and up porsche that runs and is nice i might be willing to trade all 6 of mine for one of yours.

sell them all and use the money for college..

or you could start up your own porsche pick-n-pull business, sounds like you'd have a pretty good start.

I agree part the cars out and go to school... or part the cars out til you get enough money to just buy a nice S2 or 951...

put the S2 motor in the 924S. Lighter body than the 944 and it sounds like you got plenty of panels to fix the exterior.

my plan was to make a really nice 944 with the s2 motor and sell the rest. i got college already paid for from my school. im a full time college student right now and a full time high school student and i dont pay a penny for college, the highschool does im in a program called expanded options... but how much work is involed in the swap? does anyone know a website that some one else has done the same swap. or is it way esayer to do what you guys are saying just to sell them on ebay and buy a 951 or 944s2

How Damaged is the S2..? is it just a fender bender or is the frame totaled..?

Maybe the S2 is fixable... Otherwise id just sell all the motors and transmissions and other parts and Buy a Nice 87-91 M030 S2/951... It will save you alot of time and trouble in the long run...

I mean you got 6 motors and transmission and the S2 motor with the DME will get you at least $1000-1500 and figure at least 500-1000 for transmissions depending on if they have LSD and the gear ratios...

^ I think he got the car's for free to work on and make something out of (like one useful car). Not just part out.

Go for it if you enjoy working on cars, knowing that this will be a long term project that will cost much more than you expect.

Ebay, craigslist and online forums like these are about the only place to sell parts. I agree with what everyone else is saying to sell everything and buy a nice 1985.5 plus 944. There are major differences in the electonics and HVAC between the 1984 car that you have and the S2. Anything is doable with enough time and money. This is not the type thing though were you wouldn't spend a dime to do the swap for sure. I am sure that if the S2 is cosmetically in as bad of shape as you say then there are plenty of maintenance things on it that need addressing as well.

Find a person giving away a 85.5+ shell away in your general area and swap the S2 parts into it. There have been a couple of straight shells for free on this forum in the last month. There are too many differences between early and late cars to make it worth the trouble of swapping parts.

You can swap the S2 bits into an 84 or 924S chassis. It will be a long project and the biggest challenge will be missing brackets in places and trying to marry the old style body harness on the 84 or 924S with S2 DME harness. You wil want to use the S2 DME harness, but there ares some areas they need to link up and it might cause some issues. Nothing you can't overcome, but it will take time.

Part time I suggest it will take 2-3 years to complete the swap at best. Plus there will be alot of money spend on "refurbing" bits here and there.

968 swap in a 924s witch will be the almost the same doing a S2 in a 924s the car had been given to him free, 220 man hours -----approx 160hrs reading & searching how to do it ------$14,000.00 in parts not a cheap conversion by any mean .Plus this guy knew is way aroud P cars. Jake6porsches you still want to do it.

Sounds like the gift that keeps on taking!

I would start by building up a bankroll selling the parts that are worth selling (highest dollar, lowest shipping costs). Ebay is a good place to start as well as Rennlist. The S2-944 swap is a big job. Good luck with it!
