Post Horn problems

I have a 1987 Porsche 924S. It is an awesome car and everythig except for the horn works really well. I have replaced the steering wheel, the contact ring, the turn signal and windshield wiper switches, as well as both horns and the relay under the dash. With all that said the horn still will not honk at times. When it does work it works great. But the problem is getting it to work all the time. Just a slight turn of the wheel usually enables it to work which would normally point to the contact ring but I have already changed that and the steering wheel. Any ideas?

By making the connection manually, yes. So that can rule out the relay and horns and even the wires. I really think it has to deal with the horn contact ring in the steering wheel but that thing has been replaced twice.

try slightly bending your contact down about a hair and keep doing it until it works, your contact may be just a hair away from contacting it all the time while pressing your horn pad. Just dont go too far or your horn will blow all the time. Or use some very fine sandpaper and sand the contacts and surface areas-may just need the simple cleaning and use some dielectri grease on it.

This is a common problem that I have fixed many times on these cars, the horn button grounds to the steering shaft, problem is the steering shaft is not grounded due to a well lubed and worn steering system (a good thing) easiest and cheapest way to fix is to cable tye a ground wire to the steering shaft somewhere above the pedals, wind it around the steering colume a few turns and leave enough slack so it wont get ripped out when you turn corners and earth the other end and your horn will work every time.

Kinda funny.. I replace my steering wheel today with a 3 spoke from an 86 944- all identical except for a 1" spacer where the horn sensor is.( I had to swap the turn signal cancelling mech out. Road tested all works fine- except the wheel itself is now about an inch closer to me as i drive- any harm in this? I kinda like it- can hold the steering wheel with my knee now..
